Hi all,
I went & finished another ear study;
The reason i've decided to upload another one of these is mostly because i was left with some questions, mostly on the studying process itself. I watched a few videos on how to study correctly and most brought back to observation itself. My question is do i deconstruct the ear first like a cranium into a sphere or draw out the form as is and simply observe what forms make it up (as done above)?
Since this is the second time i've uploaded an ear study i'll mix in a sketch i did after the study;
I left it just as a head since i was lazy & tired. I'm pretty excited about what is to come in anatomy 2, especially drawing an actual real head since most of what i draw is mostly simplified!

Personally I think the main reason ears look incorrect in drawings is the perspective. It's easy to tell when in ear is in the wrong angle compared to the head, so I think using a box first and then drawing from that is better. It might be beneficial to just focus on the form if you forget the different parts of the ear.

Hi all,
I've been pretty busy with art school, mostly with noses & trying to get a better grasp on them;

I felt really 50/50 with understanding noses, especially studying them. If there are any critiques, please send them this way.

The only thing that sticks out to me is the nose that is in grayscale a little below the colored nose to the right the wings of the nose look to be too high up and the nostrils connecting to the septum look unnatural to me. That's all that stuck out to me besides that these noses look good

@jpbennett02 thank you for the feedback! Now that i look at it, the skin attaching to the septum does look low or the wings look to high put. I'll keep this in mind for next time!

Hi all,
I've finished off some lip studies for anatomy 2;
I felt like some of these came out pretty bad especially the more extreme angles however i pushed ahead and got some stuff out of it. I feel like some forms fell flat aswell. Apart from that i'll probably go over the lips once more when i piece together a full portrait. If anybody has any critiques, they would be much appreciated!

Hi all,
I've done some eye studies;
I also decided to just put together the things that were covered in most of anatomy 1 and push myself to draw a portrait drawing. The reference used is to the left. I left everything to my observation however made quite alot of mistakes which left me to learn to be aware of some things such as the angle of the eyes! (hopefully i can apply it next time)
I most likely should not have done studies of individual eyes since it really isn't much to work with. i will do both eyes & the general structure around the eyes, that'll be for next time though! I only really have 1 section of anatomy 1 however would like to study some extra things & do some more studies of facial features since i feel that most of my studies i've done have left me lacking in some areas.
I also probably should have pushed myself to add values to some of the eyes to understand how lighting at least affects them.
That said, if anybody has any critiques or even good videos on the facial features, they would be much appreciated!

I'm sure you probably looked and saw where the mistakes were so the only thing I'll say is that the face feels like it's at the wrong angle maybe it's the direction the eyes are looking since in the ref they are looking down. I would also recommend looking up Sinix on youtube he has videos on facial features and how to draw them by themselves that I think could be very helpful. Nice studies btw!

@jpbennett02 Firstly thank you for going out of your way to reply & yeah, the face itself does look like its at a wrong angle, i struggled with the eyes alot and moved on way too quickly. I actually have been looking up sinix quick tips when going through the facial features , i will once more go over them again! Although his paintings at the end of his quick tips are scarily good. i was thinking of doing a study of them but i felt like it was too much of a jump.

Sinix is very good at painting and drawing! you could do studies of how he approaches drawing and painting no matter the skill level and see if you can pull it off, you never know if you don't try and your welcome.

Hi all, i've done what i would call my first put together portrait drawing;

The final section of anatomy 1 had alot of content surprisingly and it took a while for some of it to sink in. There's alot of stuff i would personally like to improve. For instance, the planes of the head which i unfortunately mostly guessed and the hair which i didn't know how to approach. Doing this portrait made me realize i have a lot of things i want to work on before i move onto a new section. I will probably spend a bit more time just restudying individual features & study the planes of the head. As usual, critiques & any good videos to anything are welcomed.

Hey all,
It's been a while since my last post, i've been working on the asaro head and i've decided to upload one of my studies;
This was a simplified way to approach painting the asaro head by using 3 values. I felt it did come out a bit lackluster in places. Since the planes can get a little complex it was a lot easier to take this approach for now. I ended up blending the edges softly to the places where i thought there was more skin instead of bonier areas of the face.

Studying in art is still a mystery to me unfortunately, i felt a little overwhelmed to do the whole asaro head at once and might have rushed & lost precision of the reference at the beginning. I'm going to keep going with the asaro head so posts will most likely be infrequent from me.

its a good start though I also didn't know how to study the Asaro head either, but I looked at a course by Marco Bucci that simplifies and explains the planes of the head to a point where they are mostly simple shapes while still keeping the structure of the face sound. He also breaks down each area of the head and the features before you put everything together all at once. I felt that trying to study the Asaro head just by itself was too daunting so I sought additional help to better simplify it and I can remember it because of how simple it was.

I didn't mean to sound like a walking ad for someone's video lessons lol but I just wanted to tell you how I went about learning the planes of the head. I felt like looking at all of them at once can be overwhelming imo. keep up the good practice!

Hi all,

I've been doing quite a few things, mostly to do with portraiture and whatnots and i just wanted to post a piece i ended up finishing;

I had alot of fun painting this sculpture, it's one of the rare occasions where i'll completely forget about self criticising myself and allow myself to freely make mistakes and see what comes out. I do want to post some of the asaro head studies that i managed to finish since a few of them came out quite interesting however i wanted to give this sculpture painting the spotlight
This is one of the few times i've actually used photoshop to finish a piece and it was alot of fun. The brushes felt superior to any digital painting software i've used so it was exciting to try new stuff out. I felt that my blending of colors was pretty bad so that'll be a thing i'll seek to improve.
Apart from that, i don't want to get too caught up in doing portraiture since i've been on this section for around a good 2 months now. I'll probably be moving on soon and will keep revisiting this since i want to keep improving!
If anybody has any videos on how to approach painting hair since i struggle quite a bit with approaching it, or any critiques, they would be much appreciated.
