Some portrait studies. I wanted to use them as base for oil practice but I have already ruined one... I think I started it wrong. I will try again. Biggest problem is probably mixing colors and the fact that oils don't dry (it is nice in some cases). Having sketch layer on top would be also nice

About sketches old males vere a bit harder to do because of the angle and well they consist mostly of beards. And chin of front facing male is off. The good thing is that I can see most of face planes without having asaro model on.

Did a quick watercolor. Liked the sketch better. Just noticed eyes are not lined and nose is shorter than it should. Not having the flip option hurts. Need to find a way to keep paper at angle because when it is flat on desk everything gets distorted and misplaced. When I sketch I usually hold it in hand but I can't keep the same angle for the whole sketch so it may be a thing too

All still good practice. You already noted what came to mind so no point in mentioning it again. Good thing you can pretty much notice and self critique quickly.
And yea, not having flipping hurts a lot. I hear you can take a photo and flip it in the phone to see how it works, but it might be too much hassle to do in the middle of a sketch.

Looks nice though! Couldn't even imagine were to start with watercolors, I hear they are rough to use and master.

Gold is a nice touch. I personally like the intensity of the shadows and the contrast they bring. Lips are particularly nice, I always struggle with female lips.

Thank you! I could take a photo but I don't really think about it while sketching. Watercolors are hard to master, but it's pretty quick to use. And less struggle than other ones. I don't go full color yet just monochrome so its easier (added a bit greenish tone for variety this time)

Some portraits from yesterday. I used more guidelines to make sure that everything has correct size (staring at noses...) and more or less correct angle. Side ones where a bit more rough. I tend to make head to short on side view and I could't see difference between some angles there so some parts are off

Started working on character design. Need to go back to those assignments. So I found old 'design' more of a drawing of a druid and it kept haunting me to make a new one for a week. I want to take more of a wild/tribal approach for her. She is mostly using vines and roots so I put some loose ones. Clothes will be mostly leather, leaves and vines

At first I had simple outfit in mind but I put crown and cape on her and I cannot unsee it now

I started playing Divinity and I love elf designs there so it is a huge inspiration for this design

This sketch is tempting me to rennder. I spent longer than I intended but I just want to make a full painting
I also made side version to figure out the head thing but I need to think more about it

All good practice. Really liking this design. Very raw. Kinda seems like a bit of a witch as well. Is the forehead intended to have a gem..? or is it more like an eye?

Thank you! She is kind of a witch. That thing is a gem containing spirits of her predecessors. It gives her insight into their knowledge and enhances magic
I can really see an eye in there it could be interesting for such setting

Nice druid design. I think the gem could also be an eye. A third eye could be the name of the gem.

I haven't added much to it just a clean up. I think I will change few things

Started working on a portrait. Colors aren't her colors it just a scheme for this painting. She isn't blue I just thought it would look nice. There are no leaves in headpiecie yet I don't know if I will add them. It just seems very busy as it is . At first she had red eyes an blood markings but I changed it to black and gold.

I wasn't sure if I should make the face lines as make up or to make it face structure. I will go with the later It will be shown on the full body as well

Now I noticed that I completely forgot about ears...

That's the final version I think. Values and colors from hair and background where too close. I tried adjusting colors a bit but I didn't like it. So it is now a big gold thing. Now every piece is gonna have that thing I guess

I saturated colors. I usually get them by blending modes but I managed without it. I think it came out pretty nice. I really like this dark reddish pink. Nose looks nice too I think I usually hate my noses

Damn that looks great! I really like the composition here, with the antlers and eyes calling my attention and the golden colors spread out in the hair. Her expression also really improved from the last post.
And yes, the nose has improved quite a bit It might seem like avery small detail but it looks really good.

The paint around the eyes looks better like this, much darker, reminds me of Kaecilius from Doctor Strange, which is a good thing. If you use the character for more pieces, it would be interesting to elaborate on the paint around the eyes to make even more pronounced, like scars around the eyes to the point it's hard to tell wether it's paint or if the skin is burned from the energy coming from the eyes.

That sounds interesting! Yes I planned more pieces for her and I want to make designs for other tribe members.
