I can do studies that look nice(more or less), it looks fine on some random no ref doodles but when I actually try to draw something it just doesn't work.

Oooof, yea, I feel like I still need to do heavy use of references. As I understand, it's just matter of continuing to build that mental library and at some point you use references less and less. Just gota keep at it I guess.

Why not Iris? because I can't spell and it feels different

hehe, I like Iris (for obvious reasons), but Ayris does have a very nice sound to it as well.

She looks interesting! Kinda wonder how she fits into the overall narrative. Sounds like someone who would take a lot of presence when she's on screen.

I've been thinking how lets call it prequel would affect main comic if I were to do it now. Short version of it is in prologue told like an old tale so I don't think it would change that much. It happens over 100 years earlier. Need to think about timeframes elf age make stuff complicated

This one is short as It was planned to be like 6 pages. Merely mentioned. I started expanding some parts but still keeping it short so I could get into making comics with this. I need to work more on it first. It already adds nicely to story and helps with some parts.

I think I will start making fanarts while I still play/watch the thing. I usually loose interest after I am done

First is Shiva. I wanted to ink it but I got stuck. I don't really know what to do with it. I will just paint it later when I think of something

And Edea
This was unplanned. I tried lineart (its more like a sketch) but didn't like it and decided to paint it. Maybe will do some fixes, I am not satisfied with some parts. Still it looks nice for something done in one sit. Should start making more spontaneous paintings like this one.

Shiva looking good, her gaze is very captivating.
That edea piece though, that looks AMAZING! For being unplanned it looks fantastic. Hard to tell it's edea at first, with the helment and everything, but I can see the resemblance better after looking at the reference.
Really amazing work. The contrast of the highlights and shadows is great, and as usual the brushworks are on point. Really nice texture work.

I don't play FF so I don't know anything about the characters, but that Edea one looks really cool :o I love the textures

She looks like that only in this one moment so it can be hard to tell. Eh helmet looked cool. I wanted to use her colors at first but I didn't feel it and went with gold

I like the strong silhouette from the ink/lineart Edea image, that silhouette is lost in the painted version. The rendering looks great but can be difficult to see due to the lack of contrast with the background.

If you are interested in improving line work and enjoy FF you could do some studies of Yoshitaka Amano's work, it might help.

That's a pretty fun idea.
I only know the Shiva from Final Fantasy X. Both Sheva and Edea look pretty good. I like how the hair contrasts with the background making it stand out.

it is. I usually make value sketch first but I wasn't really checking anything with this one. I just went with the flow and mostly focused on hair

FF you could do some studies of Yoshitaka Amano's work, it might help.

Oooof, I feel that, though I mostly feel it when I'm burned. Like just thinking about drawing something simple feels like a burden. Just matter of rest and a bit of self care though.

Exercices look great as usual, those are some very pretty clouds. I should learn from that and try to focus on studies for specific components. Maybe eventually, for now just trying to follow the term exercices takes all the time.

I noticed your heads look slightly different. Not sure how to explain it, but it's like you focused more on lineart and cross hatch than on brush and texture (if that makes sense). I like it. Overall it has a more defined look and feel to it.

is that what that is? i thought i was just lazy XD or more like perfectionism for me XD i still can't break thru the "if i dont have enough time to make it nice, i'll work on it when i have more time" which - i dont tend to have that much time for making a full animation nice.. still gotta work on breaking that mental habit smh..

Well, I think the point is that when mental wellness is affected, motivation gets affected correspondingly. How to identify what is affecting and how to resolve it varies from person to person. In my very personal case, when I'm tired and burned out I tend to lose motivation, and with a bit of rest and self care I'll usually be up and working again, but it's not the same with everyone.

Sometimes I'll still push through since I've made a habit of forcing myself to progress on different things in my life under the mindset that "if I don't do it, no one else will and it won't get done", but I wouldn't say it's exactly easy and there's a limit to how much it can be done.

All in all, I have a hard time calling anyone lazy. It's usually matter of finding what's affecting one's motivation and well being and addressing it (which sounds easier than done).

I try to get into lineart so it might be it. I didn't think too much on those

I am drained, can't get myself to draw. When I don't draw I feel like I am missing something and feel even worse. I did sketched some ideas but I can't start working on them. Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. I drew almost all day every day for a year nothing good would come out of it. And I've been pushing myself too hard lately. There is a lot on my mind and I am moving out so it also affects me. Hopefully I will find energy in a new place

Still managed to do some heads This time more stylized approach. Didn't feel like cleaning up hair
Used Ayami Kojima and Shin-ichi Sakamoto as reference. Haven't read Innocent but art is beautiful

I wasn't productive in terms of drawing but it didn't stop me from working on comic. I am still wondering if the main plot makes sense. I am more focused on the 'small stories' each character has. I want to show that even if there is a big problem affecting everyone people still have to deal with their own even if it may seem to be a silly one. You can't save the world if your inner demons haunt you

Cal Pridwen is the name. Cal short for Cathal cath - battle, fal - rule from irish. Pridwen is a name of king Arthur's shield but I may change the last name I keep mispronouncing it..

Moving places is always rough. I've moved about... 10 times or more (I lost count), and it's always a struggle. Bests of luck, really hope things turn out fine.

That's a good variety of styles. The heart in the hair of 17 is very creative xD. Favorite one is probably 20.

FYI, the Artschool discord spawned another channel specifially for story writting. It's mostly people sharing their works, but they are about to start a weekly spotlight so participants can focus on a specific work at a time and offer critique and feedback. You might find it helpful to share to recieve feedback, or just to read how others are approaching their works and get resources.

I'll share the link by DM, as I think it's a more private affair, but anyone interested feel free to DM me and I'll gladly share it.

I like that. I personally think stories need to focus on characters for the most part, feeling what characters feel is a lot of what stories are about.

I like the head sketches. Number 23 looks pretty good. The front of her hair looks like an upside-down heart. If you have a lot on your mind, It helps to write them down. It helps to figure out the problem when it's right in front of you instead of in your head. Good luck with your move.
