I'm an amateur too, but I’ll try to help and give a little critique for your artwork.
First of all there are some nicely done parts:
- the design looks pretty nice.
- The anatomy of this character looks good to me.
- I like the rain effects
In myopinion there are two main problems with this piece
The first is the composition. It is an extremely boring composition. The rule
of thirds don’t work and the Balance is symmetrical. So with this, you don’t really
have a working focal point.
So my
suggestion is to make use of the Iconic Composition. It is often used for
character pieces, so you can have your focal point in the middle of your image
(red area).
The second "problem" is your linework. I struggle with this by myself but I suggest you to make cleaner lines and not those scribble lines. But as I said I’m really an beginner,
especially with lines. Maybe someone other can help you better on this subject.
Actually I startet a topic on this and someone postet a few Videos, maybe take a look at these: My lineart topic
Hope thatthis helps you a bit
And keep drawing
Hey! So.. i don't want to come across as the the wise old man because I'm also not perfect but i thought why not giving some helpful critics All in all i think its a good Illustration. What I would maybe do different is the lighting , since its more of a dark and grey scenario i would make that pop of light in the background a bit more effective on the character ...if that makes sense..xD and since the character is in the focus point you can give it more contrast.. Also since the Gun is made of metal, it shines more and also reflects the colours of the cape/scarf and light way more
but yeah...anatomy seems about right ;D
I think is great for a start, looks rushed, like you made it in less than half an hour, it needs more definition, the line dont look final, I would make that line layer a little bit transparent and then do a new line that will be more "pristine".
The colors are nice and the palette is good, probably you can contrast more or are more color balance using some bluish shadows.
There has been some talk about the composition I think is good, but I would have all the cape drawn so you can see the end of the cape, and then place the soldier a little bit to the left of the canvas, so is not centered and use the cape as a focal point in that drags the eye to the character (probably I didnt explain that part really well).
Define more the line, offcenter the composition, use some more color balance and add some blue to the shadow tones.
