Maybe some tips in this video will help. Have you tried slowing down with your tracings and focusing only on line quality? I wonder if maybe you are rushing too much which is making the lines more wobbly. Maybe try really slowing down and perfecting the lines as you do the tracing. Undo and redo the line until you are happy with it and until it becomes more natural for you to achieve the line quality you are after in one stroke. Even going back and doing some of those line exercises from the first term might help.
Personally I also find it easier to use a more forgiving brush. I really like Marc's legendary line art brush but also the thinner you make the stroke, the more accurate you need to be to make it look smooth. Maybe try out some other brushes and see if there are any that feel nicer for you to use.
There's also a great photoshop add on that helps slow down and control your brush strokes. You may want to look into this and then you can set it up to be comfortable for how much smoothing you need.
