I am a 33 year old aspiring Kid Lit Illustrator. I am in my Master's program to become a Elementary School teacher but my passion lies in art. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, but I am untrained. I hope that Marc's course will help me grow and create an attention grabbing portfolio so that I can become the children's book illustrator I've always dream of becoming.
For reference, here is my most recent illustration. This is before I have taken any lessons in Art School and will serve as my true starting point. Here’s to hoping that I will see improvement. I’m thinking about posting a completed illustration after each Term to show my growth throughout the process. But, I don’t want to commit to that idea just yet lol
.
I started working through Term 1 today, starting with the Photoshop class. I do not have Photoshop and am instead using Procreate. Despite this, I pushed through and started on the fist 2 assignments. I’m not sure if mine came out so incorrectly because of the differences in programs used or because I need a lot more practice. I suspect a combination of both, to be honest.
Hello and welcome! Hope you enjoy the course and the group here. You have a nice basis, I would be delighted to see how far you can push your skills.
Started trying to do the frame building with cylinders and I found it pretty difficult. I don’t usually do anything like this when drawing the human figure, so I found it to be an interesting approach. I usually sight measure from my references, but this might be a useful tool to learn.
Hi there! Looking forward to going through this class together! I just started on this assignment earlier today and I am also using Procreate! I gotta ask, because I am have some difficulty myself. How did you go about the second half of the assignment? I cannot figure out how to select the colors or images to adjust the Curves and levels, as well as properly adjust hue and saturation? TYI!
I used the rectangle selection tool to select the image and the adjusted the levels, hues, balance, and curves through the adjustments drop down. It was hard though since I do not think it’s as precise as Photoshop. But, it works, more or less lol.
Yeah it’s def not easy lol it’s got me considering the switch to PS
Ive been working through the perspective module this week. This is something I’ve never done before, so it was fun and challenging.
This is my 1 point perspective drawing exercise. I chose to draw a train and include people inside to reinforce the human figure lessons. The people I chose to include are the Mighty Nine from Critical Role. This was very fun to put together but I found myself floundering with line weights. Procreate’s brushes were fighting me when it came to pressure sensitivity and line weight. I might have to draw on a much larger canvas in order to get the quality I want and need for my lines.
Super smart to use google street view for this assignment! 👍👍👍
Wow, that's a lot of detail you put in here. I does feel like the right side of the drawing is a little too empty compared to the left though, but very cool nonetheless.
