Getting back to doing Gestures, gonna focus on warriors for now, I'm wrestling with ideas for this year on how I'm gonna tackle the rest of term 3 and 4. Last time I gave myself a random number of studies "50 heads" I realized some problems with the method, so maybe no specific numbers on anything, but I'm definitely interested in understanding simplification of torso construction along with good shading of the torso

I just don't want to practice that in a vacuum, rather in the context of a complete figure. I guess I'll see as I go and do the first assignments

Sharing some gestures and one pic that caught my eye for a colored study, so far in a rough early stage

Yo, good practice man. I'm always surprised by how people seem to just be able to paint directly with colors.
As for guidance, what has worked for me is to keep in mind my end goal and set smaller goals that trace a path there. I'm sure you've mentioned it before, but where are you heading with your art studies? Do you have a final objective or is it mostly doing it for the love of it? (Which is a goal in itself)

Good work all around!! That image in rough colors already looks so pretty, can only go up from there!

Lae’zel looks pretty good. I see that the scalp looks gray for some reason.
I remember the figure drawings book being recommended.
The portrait looks pretty good.
I like the muscle study. It looks like the muscle at the neck looks shorter than in the study.
The angle of the Elf girl looks good so far.

@daceronine Goal setting is definitely good, as for me I am doing this out of the joy of art making and art consumption. I just really enjoy learning it all, understanding why some things work and others dont and just admiring good art while working my way towards making good art. My end goal is getting clearer for now as to what type of art I enjoy making and looking at the most: fantasy/realism with a painterly style. Apart from that, no real set major goals XD

@gregorya Thanks and yeah, sternocleidomastoid is a bit shorter. Main focus on that sketch was to study the overlapping of the main muscles that join trunk to arm, forming the anatomical basis of the armpits also

Yo sounds like you're well on your way to your goals then! Following through Terms and getting additional training through different means seems to be working out, because this piece is coming along really nice!
That detail on the belt circular thingie is especially impressive, there's very subtle color variation and detail in it.

Looking great so far! It blows my mind that people like you can go right into painting without an under drawing - I'm jealous

@catsforsnacks Thanks! Though i did use a base drawing, albeit quite a simple one, but it's very useful to make sure you get the proportions right

Here it is, I guess I can keep improving on it forever but I feel satisfied with how it turned out. Any observations are always welcome!

Nothing to add really, it looks great in my eyes. Other than stacking detail indefinetly not much else I can think of, and I guess at some point detail just suffers from diminished returns.

awe yea that looks SO good!!

IMO it'd look nicer with a terminator here:

And here:

the top part of the right arm could be a bit brighter for that contrast effect and on the face where the hand overlaps with the face could be a tad bit darker to provide more contrast

Great job overall tho!!

Sup man, looking good! I saw those interrogations and i did some notes to try to explain what i think is happening with those bumps (Emphasis on the "i think" part). Hope it helps.

Woah, thanks for that detailed explanation and draw-over! Those bumps really were giving my brain a workout XD this explanation definitely helped clear the doubts. Gonna practice some more backs, I also gotta be more watchful with the deltoid
