Hello!
I'd like to start off this thread with links to my social media accounts so you can follow my art pages there if you're interested.

Tumblr - Basicly everything, from sketches to finished artworks.
Facebook - Newsfeed.
DeviantArt - Finished artworks.

Secondly, I'd like to start with posting some older artworks so you can see some progress over the past years.

To keep this post short I've compiled two images that show improvement dating from early 2013 (left) till mid-2016 (right). I drew the same two characters over and over.

Alivia.

Continuation of the first post.

Mireia.

Before starting with my journey on cubebrush I would love to say that all feedback, critiques and questions are welcome in this thread and highly appreciated.
Time to start posting current projects!

Wow, you have improved quite a bit!! Keep up the good work!

You've improved so much! Can't wait to see what else you do! c:
I'm gonna watch you on dA!

Whoa just saw how big that image really is XD (never realised)
The following are some art freebies (sketches) I did for some acquaintances back in July of their Guild Wars 2 characters.

oh, guild wars AND overwatch I like you already!
Lovely works, the improvement in the portraits is amazing!

Thank you for the kind replies already @zanben, @oshred and @Acolet
(haha I've seen you on the old forums Acolet, didn't you play aswell?)

So here's what I am working on currently, do mind that it has a little bit of nudity (I am not sure if this is within guidelines, if not please contact me and I'll take it down)

I've had some trouble with it already because I didn't plan anything (light source, mood etc) at all before starting the painting and it's starting to show. It's like I completely skipped the most important step. So I asked my friend for some feedback on it and these are two of the things she mentioned:

  • There's a lack of shadows which doesn't make it clear where the light source is.
  • The head doesn't tilt with the eyes.

And then I noticed myself that her arm in the front isn't correct and the fins on her arms need work.

I am wondering if you see more things that aren't correct?

So self evaluation here, the more I blend the more I get rid of shadows... facepalm.
Anyway, I am thinking of redoing this whole painting with a different pose aswell. It currently doesn't satisfy me at all, I know I can do better. Had fun though so far.

Oh of course, we talked about it! Blame my bad memory

Your friend is right with the things she pointed out, I would add that the composition is a bit unusual, as it mostly forms one diagonal line leading out of canvas.
If you are willing to redo the whole painting, I think that's the best idea, sometimes it's easier to start again (and to get more practice done) than to spend the same time repairing.

(PS: artistic nudity is all right, so no worries about that)

Yeah I think restarting here is perfectly legit thing to do. It might also help to try to keep a full range of values throughout your painting process as that can really help you depict forms and let your colors really pop. It might also be worth spending a bit of time rethinking or reevaluating the things protruding from her shoulders and arms because as of right now they are not reading very well. Hope this helps ^__^

Yeah I noticed that too, they're actually really weird right now.
I guess redoing the whole painting is going to help me figure the fins out aswell haha!

Already sketched up a few figures. Trying to see what I like and what I can work with within the characteristics of the character.

Well well well

You've made quite a progress since I've last seen your works. Nice.
First, my general suggestion would be to pay closer attention to proportions. It's really important when drawing figures. Both overall body proportions and facial proportions.

About the fishy lady. Yes, your friend is right. Basically, the step on the bottom right could be a perfect flat color base for further shading and lighting.
You've mentioned the front arm, but didn't really collaborate on what you find wrong with it. In my oppinion the biggest issue is the lack of muscle and bone structure in it, and it doesn't really connect with the shoulder.
Also, breasts like hers doesn't make such defined cleavage line without any support.

However, the new poses are much more interesting than the previous one, and I can't wait to see the progress.

@koboldart thanks! :smile:

This is some very nice feedback especially because I now see what I did wrong with her breasts in the first attempt of the painting and is certainly something I will keep in mind when refining the sketch for the second try.
