Hey y'all :relieved: I'm Cerise (or Cherry in French), 23 and I live in Finland. I've got a background in graphic design but I found out that I am more interested in illustration and concept art. I've been looking into learning the basics of drawing and painting to make my dream come true, so Art School is perfect for me. I don't have a super artsy portfolio online except for a couple of quick gesture drawings, but here's some of my more graphic-y design stuff if that's your jam  https://leevinski.carbonmade.com/ :cherries:

This is shaping up to be one hell of an amazing course!
Can't wait to work on my skills with all of you :raised_hands:

ASSIGNMENT 3

That was a fun assignment! Added some lightning for dramatic effect :stuck_out_tongue:
References below:

In the Assignment 3
try to play with Lights for the house and shadows for the Rook

also make sure you pay attention where the light comes from the shadows go to the right, but on the left you can see a forest that throws no shadow

the idea that you came up with is not bad, I like it but the lights and shadows make you feel that it is wrong

Did you happen to work 3 before 2?
because the 2 is impressive, you managed to imitate the colors quite well in my opinion, you only have to use those same tools in 3
one last thing that I just thought, try to invert the house so that it looks towards the other side

Thanks for the feedback! :relieved:
About the shadows, I simply imitated what's happening with the tiny forest in the background, but since there is no shadow coming from the forest you indicated, on the left, it is indeed a mistake. I'm guessing the sun is much higher than I first anticipated.

I'll try flipping the house and see what I can do with the lights. Might have to choose another background picture where it is clear where the main light comes from if this one gets too weird!

To be honest the shadows are difficult with any image that is not yours, I'm trying to do
the same exercise that you did and I have to say, its not easy

I hope to see how your image evolves, good luck!
