The Earth is hugely overpopulated and the resources are depleting. The damage done to the Earth from the rise of the industrial age to present day, 2117AD has been catastrophic. The population is currently at 10.6 billion people, the oceans are dry, the land cannot produce enough food for the human population. Simply, there are too many people and not enough has been done. Now, with limited resources the governing bodies have decided to create human piloted terraforming Arks filled with species of animals, plants and the experts needed to create a new society. They will leave their families, friends and planet in an attempt to create a new Earth where the people of the Future Earth can come and live.
Each of the major superpowers on Earth sends out a space Ark to try and colonise a new planet within the Goldilocks Zone. China, being the largest superpower on Earth and reserving rights for a more promising mission sends an Ark to Kepler-62f, one of the 'super-earths' that have been discovered. The planet is 1,200 light years away; they plan to terraform and begin building a new Earth on this planet, hoping to send messages back home to a much more highly advanced Earth. The problem with the mission is that the Ark they have created can only sustain and terraform a small area around the ship, rather than planet wide. Therefore they need the help of the technologically advanced people of the future Earth to colonise Kepler-62f properly.
The passengers of the Chinese Ark, called “Zheng He” are frozen with cyronics while guided by AI sensors to guide them to their destination. While asleep it takes approximately 20,000 years for them to land on Kepler-62f. Once their, the ship automatically lands at the most suitable location (preferable a location with a high concentration of resources such as metal, minerals or water) and beings terraforming the 10km radius around them that it can generate. The electrical supply from the craft is mainly generated by wind power and solar energy. The new inhabitants begin to rebuild, to plant and cultivate and to start broadcasting messages to Earth in hopes of rescue in the future.
1000 years pass. The ancestors of this world no longer remember their mission outside of holy texts passed down from the generations. All they know is that the world is limited to a small area, that they have strict laws on population. That the outside world is harsh, cold, unbreathable. They live happily, but with no purposes. The structures of the ancients seem strange and unbelievable, and are revered as sacred, the ancients as Godlike. They live in huts in the small community created around them which they have named 'Tian'. Only the holy people and the leaders of Tian are allowed to live within the sacred temples of the ancients, some even use their technology to create miracles. Everyone is happy, life is simple and food is free and available. But no one remembers the mission.
