Hi, I'm Giang, 29 years old from Vietnam. I just quit my job as a content editor to pursuit my art dream in the gaming industry, hope it's not too late. Nice to meet all of you!

I have been watching lots of Marc Brunet's videos on YouTube for the last few months, and I really enjoy his art and also his teaching skills. So, I decided to give his Art School program a try as it focuses heavily on figure drawing/character design, which I want to learn badly. I did practice some digital painting before, but I was a long time ago, and I never drew/painted characters.

Anyway, here are my attempt to the first couple of exercises - pen control & cylinder drawing.

I really struggled with the diagonals & the curves/circles. The thing is, I can do confident circles with smooth lines, but they might not line up with the models (you know, the dotted lines). I would have to redo it again & again (yeah, ctrl+Z repeatedly) until they somehow match the model. I feel like it's just pure luck as I have no control where the pen goes. But if I draw slowly, the lines will be shaky, and the circles are not really smooth even when I draw from my elbow/shoulder. Any advice?

Anyway, I will keep doing this pen control exercises daily for 2 weeks (based on the Weekly Companion Guide), and then once a week, maybe?

Cylinder drawing is also a good pen control exercise, so I decided to draw as many cylinders as I can.

I'm so sorry for my bad English, but I hope you get what I want to say. Have a good day you all!

Welcome to the forums Giang! excercices look good so far!

Day 2 & 3 on Pen Control exercises.

Figure Drawing practice, simple standing poses for now to get used to the proportions and the body forms. I will try more dynamic poses in the next practices. I also watched the Anatomy 1 video from term 2 to practice simple head construction as well. Really appreciate contructive criticism, thanks!

These all look really well made! I guess if there was anything to note, is that for the manequins, it's probably a better idea to draw the "spine" going all the way from the back of the head to the back of the lower box instead of just adding the "tube" connecting the torso box and the hips box.

Pulling the cylinder all the way up will help keep the gesture a bit better, though it still looks good here.
