  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Poses are from refs but I look at refs for a while and then try to do it myself and look it up if needed. Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

Thanks for the visual! that actually really helped. I have a difficult time understanding things that don't have a visual to go with them.

as much as I like the teal, I figured i would try something different and do pink. Did a more refined "T" pose to work out some parts of his design. Ditched the wires, and fixed the part of his outfit that emits the lightning. Also Included the headshot with the pink glasses.

Cool deisign and power idea, those electric power though, I thought at your previous concepts that they were coming from his cloak or robe, that was cool, im a bit down that you changed the design for that, but it's okay it's still frikin awesome haha!

It might look dark and muddy so far, but I had to work with my computer color settings all the way low. ANYWAY, moving on.

My original idea was for my character to be a little creepy, sort of "Victor frankensien" ish, but i abandoned that idea and went with a "Sleek fashion designer." but now i sorta miss the creepy aspects, so i decided to revisit them.

Also now I realize it might have been a good idea to make his glowing glasses, y'know, actually glowing, but that image is a rough draft. I mainly posted it just in case there are any composition Oopsies that I missed.

In my opinion the composition is alright, right now it's a bit hard to tell how things should go, but I do think you could shorten it a little:

That guy on the bottom is not important, he doesn't need to be seen head to toe. + if chop it off similarly to how I did, you might want to change the flow of the lightnings.

I see what you mean, but I also feel that, for some reason, when cropped, it lacks depth?
Would adding more interesting features to the bottom figure that make him worth looking at be helpful to the composition?

Perhaps detailing the guy would give him purpose, but he is not the main character and shouldn't distract from him.
For depth, maybe you could add more bots in the BG and maybe some birds with some heavy atmospheric fog.

EDIT: The fog could also help with the creepy vibe!

Going off of your suggestion, I decided to have Option B have the lightning kind of surround the bottom character, but also give the viewer an "Escape" route back up to the main character.

With Option A, I decided to lighten the values on top of of the main character if I happened to add details to the bottom character, therefore the viewer would still be drawn back to him.

Although I do think I prefer B...

Yes, but now B is very bottom heavy, and the top is very empty. I'm not too sure how this could be fixed, but I gave it a go:

I changed the form of the lightning a bit so there is more breathing room. I do think I cut it too much, adding thinner forks going off the sides will probably work very well. I moved the whole image a bit, to make the composition more diagonal, but also moved the farther bot a bit down, because the three heads made a very uncomfortable straight line. Perhaps they could be moved around a bit more. I also added a heavier cloud on the left, because it was feeling too empty, same for the bottom left. Aaand I kicked up the lights right next to (and on) the main character as well, making even the lightning darker as it goes farther away from him.

I'm still not 100% with this version, but I think it's going somewhere.

That is much better than the first two. The top of the image does feel kind of empty.

I think I might know what to do to fix it now, but for reference, here is My original composition, Next to the "fixed composition."

I decided to define the "Ground" that the characters were standing on, and I layed out some Guidlines to put some highlights. The only thing I'm not 100% on is the moon. Anyway, I'll spend more time toying with it. I might start over with the original idea in mind.

I know it's still a rough draft fixing the composition and thumbnail @skullguzma , but I hope you darken the bots at the back a lil bit so your character is in focus, because looking at the fixed version, I dont really know where to look first. And @yorieofthecastle version looks really good in composition and lighting, I like the cropped version more than showing the ground and full body of the character  I hope this helps!

For the moon - I put it partially behind the character's hair and it's still the best option I can think of. That way you have light-dark-light (moon-hair-glasses), our eyes are naturally drawn to the areas with most contrast, which is where is advisable you put the main focus of the picture.

You all are probably tired of me changing my mind every other second  But I have decided to start from scratch with my character. He was neat, I'm still keeping the lightning, so don't worry about that, but he wasn't "WOW!" to me. I also realize that Machinery, and glowing lights and all that just isn't my strong point, and If I want to stand any chance against all the really amazing artists here, i might have to do something drastic. Will I stay a part of team Sci fi? If it's not against the rules to Switch, then.... We'll just have to see about that.
Stay tuned, because new concepts will be coming shortly!

Ooooooh new concepts! :open_mouth: and you could switch to fantasy in any moment :open_mouth: But we'll see, im excited to see more concepts!

I was really just winging it with his original idea :scream: I also realized it was kind of silly to try to compete with something i knew next to nothing about, Mech and technology are something i have never worked with until now. so hopefully the "WOW!" factor will show itself in something i'm more confident with!

Yess thats the spirit! Go with your comfortable genre, and go with uncomfortable designs that way you learn the fastest! I'm originally a fantasy fan, but watching these space videos on youtube made me go into the sci fi side, but fantasy made me get started into digi painting! hahaha! But anyway, I'll be expecting that Wow factor

I said I was keeping the lightning, and then I forgot to draw it, I mainly just thought That this New design had enough already.
So
Expect more concepts! I'm just full of ideas, and the second i finish one, 12 more come to take it's place :scream:

EDIT: My tablet cord broke :disappointed_relieved: And my tablet's design makes getting a new one really tricky. Well, we'll see if I can still participate, in the mean time, i'll switch most of my thinking onto paper.

EDIT AGAIN!: found a cord for my tablet. Thinking back on my original concept, I'm thinking that the only thing that Wasn't really working for him was that shoulder piece. Dubbing it, the "Shoulder donut". I didn't really know how attached I was to his design until i "scrapped him." So despite how i said I was starting over with a totally new character, i think i might listen to my heart and see how I can make a truly great character out of him.

Hey, you do what you think is right! ^3^ The Insect queen looks very promising, but if you think you can improve the previous design, alright, we'll be waiting!
