Now for some environment to put him into.
Here are a few sketches, i was looking for a nice lighting, contrasts, general composition. The background shouldn't be too complex, Butch is the main character here.
I like the last one, stepping out from a dropship. Dark background will help me to show the holographs around him.

Now i made an inspiration sheet, searched for artworks i like and circled the ideas I'd like to consider in my design. This gives some idea about the target look im after.
You can call me lazy, but in this project im not looking for an original design. I want it to be down to earth, quasi-realistic as a futuristic soldier can be. I guess people like things that look familiar. My objective is to learn how to design a modern warrior, as for until now i enjoyed painting fantasy stuff.

Ok I'm heading to the finish. I changed his name for the one meaning 'the lone warrior', which is more suitable i think. On the illustration sheet I tried to give him an aura in the shape of wiking silhouette with an axe, but it just didn't work. So to sum up, his superpower is a god's essence, which gives him strength and speed, making him a super-soldier. An orb on his armor helps him to control it. My approach to superpower is very down to earth, and based on technology. Remember Cable from Deadpool2? His powers are not visible at first sight, but still badass.

I still have time to the end, so suggestions are always welcome.

Nice lighting on the final illustration!
I did like the viking aura though, it'd be nice to see it implemented, it adds depth to the character.

I think you should, it adds to the "superpower" theme of this competition.
