Hi artists!
so, i will be uploading my work in progress for the contest in this thread.

Here you will see the progress of Flanger, a cyborg super heroine with the power of sound, fighting for the Sci-Fi team!

Good Luck everyone!

I'm not great at drawing hi-res stuff, so i started to concept out my character by creating a fighting stance with a zbrush mannequin. I want Flanger to be a fighting-game-like character, so i made this pose:

After finding a pose i liked, i rendered the mannequin in a low pixol resolution and took it into graphicsgale. There i used it as a reference to create a rough sketch for a pixel art character:

I'm not that into drawing big stuff, but i love crafting pixel art, so i will concept my character, first as pixel art, make a very low detail idea of what i expect my character to be, and then i will move to reference searching.

Wow totally new the workflow for me , but I can´t copy what approach my pixelart are horrible and dont wanna show

Pixel art is a loooong process, both for learning and to craft it, but it is fun and relaxing if you are a patient person.
This workflow works for me, because the lower the resolution, the less possibilities of errors with lines and stuff. You can concentrate in the general shape and colors of the objects without worrying or losing time in premature details.
But, this is definitely not a workflow for industry things, it is too slow. @independhans

I polished the sketch until i got a low res image of what i want my character to be, trying to keep the color and pixel counts as low as possible so i could concentrate on the general aspects only and not in very specific detail.

I for one appreciate this new take on conceptualizing i am rather enjoying your discoveries continue  do what makes you happy looks to be working for you.

of course! today i will post an animated version i'm working on, because there are some details a static concept could not give me so easily

Do you want a pixellized look in 3D? That could be awesome and very unique !

Do you plan to 3D model this character or are you just doing 2D?

i am going to model it in 3d, this is my way of concepting. @briandolan89

@grigouips i thought so a while ago, but i think i will mix hand painted textures and PBR for a different look, maybe i will add some pixel/voxel things, i'm still deciding what will i do with this girl, but the awesome and unique pixellized look you mention sounds like something that would look nice as part of my final piece, thanks for your suggestion

@independhans thanks, i'm glad you like it!

So, here is my animated basic concept.
It helped me land some expresion onto my character, i liked the idea of a tesla coil girl while listening to the music played by talented scientists on this awesome devices,l so i made her surrounded in lightning bolts created by her inner music

jumped directly in showing so clean sculpt. how you did it? looking great.

thanks!

i used zspheres to create the base of the body, then used dynamesh to refine the shape.
brush work is mostly clay tubes, move and trim dynamic, the last one specially for the face.

i made a blocking sculpt of the hair. i think i will later replace it with alpha cut-out hair in planes with anisotropy, but i'm still deciding if a solid block hair is a better option for this girl.

i also made some sketch painting of the face to see how it looks with the carrot-colored hair and i'm liking how it looks so far.
