Entry #2: Detailing the thumbnail and settling on a composition

I made the champion's scale smaller so that I could include a victim to the front >: )

I also added birds for scaling, and I'll be adding pillars from which my champion will be standing on top of, to once again reinforce the height/strength of the waves.

After that, I worked on a rough lighting to put more emphasis on my champion.

Next step will be to fix the mistakes in this composition and to detail my main boi/gal.

hello camille , can i give you some advice ? i would love to help a fellow water artist

okay ! so you have a very good idea for showing how strong the water element can be ,however that must not be on the expense of your character ,the character must be your main element , if you saw last years submissions, charters take approx one thirds of the composition, besides this competition is aimed at character design, so my advice for you is to focus on the character while keeping the concept of the strong tides :blue_heart:

Don't worry, concepts are being made and the movement of the waves will be based on the champion's body movement! This isn't the final product!

I feel like #2 is better balanced. #5 feels very 90's big shoulder pads, big hair. 8 could be okay, but hard to tell at this stage.

I like the silhouette of 8 but prefer the head of 2, maybe try mixing those 2 together.

Yee, I definitely gonna go for a big headdress!

I decided to run with the pillars I used for my composition thumbnail and go full force with the hellenestic vibe stuff.

12 days later

heheh the catfish fumanchu is great

Beautiful composition so far, that water is going to be impressive. And I don't know if you're planning on including photobash like that in the final piece, in case you are unawares it will disqualify you if you use any photography in the painting! I wouldn't want to see this stunning piece go to waste over something like that xO

Entry #5!

Ditched the land POV for an underwater POV. I thought it could create more interesting backgrounds and give my character a little bit more of a ""backstory"". Gonna diversify the hues and add more atmospheric perspective effects once I'm done with laying down the details in the background.

I also think that I'll change the pose of my character into something that looks much more confident, as if he's at the "head" of this whole thing going on in the back.

Personally I really liked the energy and power in the other one (as contrary to what you said in your most recent post, I think it was a bit different than what a lot of people with water have done) but either way this new one has a lot of good potential, though the composition itself leaves a little to be desired, and he doesn't quite fit into the composition either. I understand it's a new iteration though and you probably just haven't done much to it yet lol
