Yeh, it was a little tricky trying to pose his limbs since his beard kind of obstructs view of his body a bit. A design drawback. :x

It's not clear in the B/W clean sketch but a little of his back thigh can be seen. His pose might be tweaked later in the rendering phase. Thanks for the critique!

ah really loving those dynamic comps really cool! seems you also going more for creatures atm ^^

A WIP shot of my illustration. Very rough, applying local colours and figuring out which colours to use for BG elements and the lizards.

WIP #2. Focused on focal point, establishing key shadow, ambient occlusion, secondary light, etc. BG grayed out for easy viewing.

WIP #3. Foundation is pretty much set. Now I'm painting over the characters, polishing and adding extra detail. The cloud beard will be worked on soon, I left it alone which is why it may look odd. Deadline is approaching!

Pay no attention to the derpy-looking lizards in the BG. They are not ugly, they were just born that way.

WIP #4. More rendering and polishing. Painted cloud beard and smoothed out details on BG lizards. If anyone see anything looking odd, feel free to comment.

Oh no, I feel so sorry for lizard guy he's hurting bad xD

Heheh. Well, it's his own fault. He should've joined the Lightning Army. :stuck_out_tongue:

Did a little extra on the surrounding elements. Attempted to fill in the empty space behind the BG lizards to make their army feel bigger. May need more tweaking.

BG needs more work, but it's getting there! My brain's feeling heavy from looking at this image all day every day. :weary:

Again, C&C from anyone is welcome.

I relate so much to heavy brainage. Been working on mine a solid two weeks and I swear some my own head has turned to mush lmao but it'll be worth it! You've come so far and done so well xD And it's really really looking fantastic! I like that you made their army seem bigger, but I think you could add some atmospheric perspective as his lightning trail from the sky and the sky itself feels a bit 2D

I'm glad to know you like my piece. ^^ It's hard to tell what people actually think of your own piece outside of post likes.

And yes! I knew I was forgetting atmospheric perspective for the BG. >_< Thanks for the reminder!

WIP #5. Improved the BG. Added dust and ion particles in the path trail. Smudged and tweaked some areas. Gave the FG lizard a nasty nosebleed. Getting close to finishing.

Oh no it's so good yet I feel so bad for the lizard

WIP #6. Okay, I'm at a slight impass. I'm not sure whether or not I should apply field blur to the elements surrounding the champion.

Here's a comparison; top one is without blurring, bottom is with blurring applied. What does anyone think?

I had to look twice to see the difference - In my opinion you can use that blur effect, but maybe it could follow the movement of your character like a motion blur and it should be recognizable if you decide to use the blur - at the moment it only looks less worked out with the effect you've put on it.

Thanks @EllyettWee for the feedback!

Phew. It's been a long month but I've finally finished. Thank you to everyone who liked and gave feedback on my work! It's been a great learning process and I feel my illustration skills have leveled up in the process. It's been a fun ride! Good luck to everyone entering.

I know you passed it already but I was gonna say the blurring helps to focus the image a little bit, makes it feel a bit fast and furious too. Glad you got it finished before the deadline, I wish all the best to you and your little moth dude

Thanks Rachel! Yeh, the blurring definitely helps, but I wasn't sure how to approach it initially. I was afraid adding blurring would take away from the illustration. I had to experiment this morning with a mixture of blurring effects and smudging until I was satisfied. I think it paid off.

And good luck with your entry piece too! You've put in a lot of effort. ^^

I can understand that lol I've had many a time where I've been experimenting with blurring and done way too much to an image and then lost a lot of the detail and painting. I think still even to this day I struggle on getting the balance right but hey practice is practice haha

Thank you! If it wasn't for you and many others it wouldn't have turned out how it did
