I was about to chose lightning side, but I finally pick the element of fire. I am a calm and patient person, I don't really have the fire spirit, so I thought it would be interesting to explore things I don't usually associate with my personality, and still doing it my way.
I can't help myself to have a soft approach, so my idea was to illustrate Ash/dying fire.
I wanted to set up a situation where the fire side would be dominated, but the young generation would actually be a new hope against invaders.
My first sketch is a character, a prince with mage features
Then, I was inspired by traditional caucasian clothes for his design
I am more an illustrator than a designer to be honest, so I quickly have a general composition in mind, and then I add details
The young prince Ember, alongside the giant Aries sent by Mars, as a companion in arms. He stands before King Khazri preparing to unleash a white squall in the land of ashes.
The ennemy king is named after a wind, so his element is AIR, which doesn't really beat the fire, but the fire is curently weak (it's just ahes). I imagined the land of fire made peace a long time ago, but it was against the fighting spirit that animate the element, so it fainted. The wind kingdom never dominated the fire warriors, but now it has a chance. However, the pride of the wind king could ironically rekindle the flame of the land.
I wanted the prince to have a familiar, so I chose an Aries because it's associated with fire according to zodiac signs, and it was in accordance with the mountainous landscape. Mars gifted it to the people of the land of fire, at the condition that they honor their glorious past and make war again.
