Got the general Maya blocking done for him now to work on his lantern and then throw them into zbrush.

Thanks! Yeah I plan on hand painting him, still not 100% sure on his color scheme yet though. The concept I made is my fav, but I think I'll play with it once I get there and see what looks better in 3d.

Finaly got the zbrush work done. Ended up changing the lantern just a bit because I wasn't happy with how it was sitting on the pole.

Starting the texture process now! So far got his hood and bell pretty nice. Still got a lot of work to do on his robe and have only blocked in color for the staff so far. Still experimenting with the flames for his head, but Im saving that for more towards the end.

Wow! It's getting nicer. How did you make the texture? Did you paint it from 0 in zbrush or use some smart texture?

I actually just export out the UVs from maya and use Paint Tool Sai to hand paint all the textures. Zbrush texturing feels really awkward to me and though I do know how to use programs like substance, I enjoy hand painting much more, so I usually just do it in paint tool or photoshop.

Ok. Finally got an acceptable amount of texturing done, still wish I had more time to clean it up a bit but Im pretty happy with how it turned out for the time I had. If I got some time left once I figure out posing and lighting Im gonna go back and mess with it some more.

Its been a hard process since I got a late start but finally Willow the Wisp is complete! I'm rather happy with how he turned out. This competition was so fun to take part in and everyone was so awesome when it came to support and answering questions. Can't wait to do this again next year!

WOW! You really surprised me! I thought you were going to leave him with the pose you designed him with. But with this dynamic pose it really comes to life, it's beautiful (it could be a very cute indie game character)

Thanks! Yeah originally I wasn't gonna do much with his pose, but I wanted to showcase him attacking with his lantern and after a lot of trial and error with posing here we are! I was thinking the same thing lol, I'd love to make a little game for him (was thinking of practicing rigging and animating character in unreal with him anyway lol).
