  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

To be honest I think the main problem isn't the head (even though it could use some tweaks), it's the rest of the body. You should be able to render it better by studying light, value and color so that way you'll immediately notice what went wrong and make corrections accordingly.

A good advice I heard from someone is to know exactly what you don't know. That means if you don't know something you should study and learn it. Then repeat the process for the other things you don't know instead of going in blind and making guessing games.

Sorry for seeming harsh but I feel like you could use some hard hitters and if you need anymore advice feel free to ask

The anatomy does need some work (pretty much everywhere). Also that pose (on her tiptoes) is pretty hard to keep (try it :D) which lends some stiffness, as if someone told her to freeze in the middle of an action.
The bigger problem however, in my opinion, is the general lack of volume. Almost all the objects on her (the pistol, the belts...) look like stamps (or bodypaint). You should look into values and light (for example, her nose seems to be behind her cheekbone).
Find a reference and study it carefully, understand what gives objects form and volume, and what makes them look in front of other things (in terms of vertical planes like fore-/mid-/background). Also try to draw the different orthogonal views of an object before drawing it in a free 3d view while studying, in order to understand the form better.

Having no time, i have decided i start the promotional, and return to the concept later. I have 8 days which means i will probably skip some school (damn). Anyways i really got into some stuff, watched a tons of videos, and i read a whole book during my weekend, so i think i will be able to make something very great from this.

So here is my best idea (I accidentally deleted all my previous thumbnails so i can't show them).
I want something action filled, with a lot of contrast both in the theme and in the colors. I took the symbol of the white rose more in the foreground as it carries the meaning of purity and innocence which - in the post-apocalyptic world i try to present - is surely not a thing you can find.
The second thing I wanted was her being chill as hell, like it's not a big deal at all that she fights zombies, and stuff, so it gives her some kind of heroic charisma, and with that i will be able to place her into the 'Light side'.
As for the background I wanted something with great depth, that could carry the whole theme of the picture, so obviously i needed some giantic destroyed human buildings (what else...), like towers (no 9/11 included tho). As i said before this is my first ever digital painting, but luckily I have very great experience in traditional ways of creating very nice environments, so I don't think that's gonna be a problem for me.
And for last, but not least I wanted to try something more dynamic, since most of my other thumbnails were too static for my taste of action, so i added the two enemies she is fighting, and both of them are surely great for this desire.

Ok. The sketchwork is done. It's still feels a little bit wrong, so i need your help again, by telling me what do you think is wrong.

Anyways, i have actually no idea, what to do now. Probably i will move onto the background first, and render the characters after, since that might help me with the lights but i am very unsure about that. I am thinking about changing styles (in the rendering i mean) and i might go for something rougher.

Well that's something, that i already know.
Anyways I finished a rough background, altough i might completelly stay with it, so it doesn't take the focus from the character(s).

Ok, so I made some research on the site, and tried to mimic other people's method of rendering, since my style is not quite the thing I can work with on my skill level yet. Seeing Sparkofdawn's picture helped me a lot since it gave me the idea, of working with very harsh and rough colors in the early stages, and then slowly build up the details, and the smoothness of some areas, like skin and human-made objects where I want to set the viewer's eye, so this is how I started to work.
This is my rough color phase, and since that's my biggest weakness at the moment, can u please send me some feedbacks? I won't start the detailed rendering until you don't make me sure the colors are fine, so please.

You're going at it from the wrong direction, it's not about the 'how', it's about the 'why' things are done (I hope that makes some sense).

All the advice people gave you doesn't encompass rendering itself - it's light, shadow, values, forms, colors, anatomy, composition and motion/pose (rendering will be a part of them but they can be done phenomenally without there being any actual detail/'rendered out' areas).
Focus on these areas (and sorry but they're a bit too...large to cover in a single post critique, nor do I feel qualified to give in-depth critiques on them).

As another user said - sorry if I seem harsh in that comment, it's not my intention, but you seem to wish for an extremely thorough/in-depth help.

Ok. Well, I was thinking about stuff, studied some more, and got to the decision: 'This is trash.'
so I started everything over, now that I kinda know how to do stuff. I stayed with the rose theme, but I worked it over. I want a really colorful picture, something with rich green and yellow colors, so some kind of forest would be a good idea. For the character I tought about something like a fairy, so here is my sketch I did in the last 2 hours.

I don't think i will finish in time, but i am passionate about finishing it. btw. Is this too much nudity?

Hello!I am not good enough to give you too strong advices ,but I think the new pose you are working on is much better than the last one!It looks more natural.Dunno about the nudity,I think it isn`t anything bad ,but keep in mind-your character is going on a war!So you should probably show that? But overall I love it,you are improving! I wish you good luck

Thanks!
Well, I finished the overall sketch of the character, and I actually really like it. I got a tip from someone, that I should stop rendering with colors, so it would look realistic, instead, I should go with something more graphic, like the second pic below, altough I did not think it through very well yet. Either ways I hope I can finish before the deadline, becouse I feel more confident about this piece, since the more textured look makes it stand out.

btw. THICC

Guys! I have made a huge mistake. Last day, when i saved the picture in png, to upload here, i resized the image into a more comfortable ~2500x2500 piece, and I didnt revert back after that. So now i have a saved file in low quality instead of my usual 10000x10000, and i can't change back without losing my edges.......... Is there any other chance to get back my original save in Photoshop (before the resizing)?

@Lywasa very small chance of this working but - if you use Windows, you can try Right click - Properties - Previous versions, see if you have anything there.
I know that this is no use to you now, but whenever I plan to resize down, I save the picture as new file first, just to be sure.

Meh, it's not working. Well, i think i had to learn it in the hard way.
Actually as i think about it, it can be better like this, since with lost edges in some places i can move the viewer's eye indirectly to the more sharper areas. Since i used the Golden Ratio already with it's center on her face, by sharpening it more, her head would be really eyecatching, which is exactly the thing i want with the picture. So maybe it was just a "happy little accident"... We'll see.

Repaired my lines as much as I could, also finished coloring the character. Now i start to brainstorm some kind of background, and maybe add another character.
