Hi everyone,

I've been drawing off and on throughout my life, nothing very serious, and I never would have considered myself an artist, just a hobby sketcher. I actually went to school for music

These past few years I've been getting a little more into it, especially since my girlfriend got me a Huion tablet in Christmas 2019. I've been loving it and took some classes at a local digital art studio, and have been following the first portion of the drawabox.com regimen (currently in the midst of the 250 box challenge!).

Art School seemed like a great supplement to my learning, so I purchased it at the beginning of this year and have been slowly working my way through it. I'm amazed by the art and progress I've seen on these forums and would be grateful to have my work reviewed and critiqued by/among you.

Here are some of the Photoshop 1 assignments

I'm using Krita as a photoshop stand-in, but I have no idea if I'm just awful with it's liquify tool, or if it's a bit lackluster in comparison to Photoshop's. Marc seemed to have a much easier time effectively liquifying small parts, but even small movements on my end would drastically alter alot more of the image. I tried to make my dog fit my face and the result is horrifying

The apples and the house at the lake look pretty nice
I guess the colour assignment (bubbles) and the value assignment (black and white) could use some work. Did you try to color pick to check your results?

Thanks @Julia_J! I think I was getting a bit confused with the hue, saturation and lightness, but I went back in and it was a breeze to get them much closer. Still not perfect, but here's the result:

Also tried to match the scene with the woman again, but I'm still having trouble getting the right hue and saturation. The colour pick is off just so slightly.

I'm going to skip ahead to posting my assignment for Perspective 1 since I just completed it, and will post the other items in Term 1 later. Kept it pretty basic although it took quite a while to work out all the details and shadows. Critiques welcome and appreciated!

looks good, the only thing that stands out to me (it could be perspective) is the floor level. on the left the floor seems to be lower - look at the sofa and the fireplace floor lines vs the right side floor.

Thank you @HANDRO! I made some adjustments to the dog bed earlier and missed fixing that portion. I hope it's more obvious now; there's a step-up in front of the fireplace.

definitely helps. In my house we have a step that raises the chimney about 18" from the floor so it was throwing me off.

The distortion and interactive shading exercises are proving difficult for me to do from imagination. I'm wondering if I should try using references.

Been working on this nose this afternoon - first attempt rendering one outside of Marc's lesson. I know it's not perfect, but I'm proud of it as a second attempt! Thoughts?

Finished up Anatomy 1 yesterday. Here's the work I did during the lessons. Going to practice the features from different angles first before moving on to Perspective 2.

Here's some figure drawing from the past few days. I wasn't liking how busy the gesture drawings were coming out (see first photo), so I'm making an effort to use less and more precise lines (more like second photo).

I also did some more practice with proportions, and took reference from @Draconia's work because they looked more refined than my first tries.

Then it's a real win for me to have been able to inspire you a bit!
If I may say so, you could widen the chin of your characters a bit, it will fit better with the real proportions, but surely there is a course on the proportions of the face so if you are not there, don't take into consideration what I say, you'll see it when the time comes!

hey, i am using Krita as well and I can say that in the Photo edditing tool parts it seems that Photoshop works way more effective, i had the same problem with the #4 exercise as well, with the collors and shadows configurations, so you are not alone =)

Here are some facial features I've been working on. The colours are a bit strange on the left, and the right side of that iris is muddy, but I'm happy with the eyelashes and light effects.
