DEADLINE EXTENDED UNTIL WED MARCH 1ST TO OFFSET AmazonS3 OUTAGE - SEE UPDATED COUNTDOWN BELOW

Hey everyone! We're celebrating our 1st anniversary in a big way - let the ART WAR begin! What is the ART WAR? It's an international ([See eligibility][1]) art competition for 2D & 3D artists where you compete for the title of "ART WAR Champion" along with some incredible prizes.

BRIEF

The art community had been at peace for a while now and the future looked bright heading towards the new year. Unfortunately... good things never last...

On the verge of the year 2017, an all out art war has erupted! With those who say Fantasy is the ultimate genre and others boasting nothing else but Sci Fi is worthy; one champion is gravely needed to rise above all and settle things once and for all. Will fantasy become the ultimate winner with its magic or will it be Sci-Fi with its advanced technologies?

Which side will you take?

RULES

Pick either Fantasy OR Sci Fi as your contest topic and create the most epic champion the art world has ever seen - only him/her/it will be able to bring peace back to the art community.

Your champion can have weapons & tools and can be human-monster-creature-ethereal-elemental-undead - almost anything goes.

To enter the Cubebrush ART WAR:

  • Create a free Cubebrush account (if you don't have one already)

  • Create a new topic in the [2D][2] or [3D][3] category using this EXACT format:

    ART WAR | 2D or 3D | Champion Name | Username (example: ART WAR | 3D | Bubbleman | marc)

  • Post your progress over time in your own topic, entries uploaded at the last minute will not be considered, this is a community-building event!

  • No art recycling, your entry has to be new and made specifically for this contest

  • You can only submit one entry per category (2D/3D)

  • Keep gore and nudity to a SFW (safe for work) level. If you think you'd get in trouble if your boss looked over your shoulder and saw it, then it's probably too much.

  • Use #ARTWAR when posting about the contest on social media!

JUDGING

Judging will be based on how well the topic is represented, overall quality and skills displayed as well as the "wow" factor.

Here are your judges:

Wow thanks Marc for the opportunity. I think this contest will be amazing. And those prizes are awesome, I need this Rin or Yellow Star.^^

@marc what you're doing here is really remarkable. It's seems that you are aways thinking as a fellow artist being part of the community.

I hope you keep pushing the community forward, together we are stronger.

This sounds like a lot of fun! I've been waiting for some time for an art contest and I'm really excited to be part of it. This will be the first one I join! Can't wait to see what everyone else does

Joined it on the 3D sci fi side, see you on the battlefield!

I have a a question that I am sure will eventually be asked, so I'll just throw it out there without waiting:
Is "Fanart" permitted?
I get that copyrighted material is probably out of bounds, but is something like a character from a show like CriticalRole on twitch an acceptable choice of subject?

Good question, original art only!

Sci Fi or Fantasy... why not both? :frowning: It isn't allowed by the rules, right?

That supercool, dont know if ill find the time to do this but definitely will keep and eye on this  great idea

So do I have to create just a character concept or a full image with composition etc.?

This is super neat!

I've been procrastinating on getting involved with the Cubebrush forum, but this is a great place to start. Here's to everyone entering! May we all have the discipline and drive to follow through. =)

Quick Rules question: What are some of the specific guidelines on using concepts for 3D submissions? Can we use another artists complete concept? Just use others' works as reference/inspiration?

This is truly an ART WAR. You weren't kidding when you said it'd be nuts, @marc !
Super pumped. Looking forward to what you'll all come up with..!

I will be entering the 3D side for this contest and had a quick question for the final character. Can the Final 3D mesh be 3D print friendly? Meaning no UV or textures or does it have to aim more towards film and game models? Thanks for your time.

Kurt

Hey! Pulled up the specifications from the 3D description for you. You can present your model in whichever manner you prefer! As long as the judges are able to see your final character and the progress/concept behind it, you're good to go! Good luck.
-
Dimensions: at least 2048x2048 pixels - format of your choice
This is THE image to display your character in all its glory. The character has to be 100% 3D, but the background can be whatever you prefer.
Embedded Marmoset Viewer

Use our new Marmoset embedded viewer to show off your character - this will be used for judging. The .mview file has a 20mb size limit.
OR

Detail Sheet

Dimensions: 2048x2048 pixels
-If you are not uploading your model using the Marmoset viewer, include this sheet in your final submission. This should include both the front and back of your character in a T-pose as well as close-ups of interesting details and areas we can't see well with the Final Image alone. Squeeze everything you have into this one sheet.

So excited for this @marc !! I havent participated in a contest since Retrogasm last year :stuck_out_tongue:

Could you post a list of the judges names? I recognize most of you from the pictures, but there's a few I'm not familiar with.

Read the 3D Submission Requirements should be all there - the UVs are not part of the final submission hence you can do whatever you want. Your final model has to have textures however, be posed and be in its environment (that last part can be 2D)

What a way to jumpstart the new forum site! This is going to be fun.
Team Fantasy!
