- Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?in24.0k
- Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with youin1.4k

- Thank you @daceronine! If I remember I save in google cloud, I will have to stick a note to do it more often. Lamp is from life. Poses are from refs but I look at refs for a while and then try to do it myself and look it up if needed. Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!in47.3k
Your gestures are nice ! try to incorporate more of them when u do figure drawing, be more relaxed and try to make long, curvy lines, you can do it i can see on your gestures
Keep up with drawing boxes and cylinders in perspective everyday, its gonna help you so much in the long run with thinking in 3D
Good work keep going !!
Thanks for the feedback! I will certainly try to incorporate the gesture into my other figure drawings! With the measure proportions, it seems all about getting accurate that I forego the flow, but I'll try to balance it in the future!
I'll also be sure to keep up the basic forms practice, it has been super beneficial to my art! Even before doing ART School.
So I was hoping for some advice. I struggle a lot with overthinking. I overthink so much, that I don't even start drawing a lot of times. There are so many fundamentals I want to work on, and I often wanna do things that I'm perhaps not ready for yet, like color.
If I want to do personal work, I've got a lot of ideas and it's difficult to choose one. Even if I do decide on one, I worry that my skills aren't good enough to make a quality piece.
Does anyone have an idea/advice for a practice routine that'll make it easier to hunker down and just do the work?
I also got into an art rut back in September, and I didn't really pick things back up until April of this year. When I started drawing again it was a lot of study and practice. Now it's challenging to start an original piece. Because I've gained so much knowledge about art, I'm a lot more aware of my flaws, which makes it more of a drag to get through original work. Is there a way to get the creative spark back?
So I think this is probably different for everyone and I think i may be changing my schedule but here is what has worked for me so far.
All week I am thinking about my piece for the following week, giving it time to incubate in my head, so when I get to the next saturday I am ready
Saturday = prep day, prep all my instagram posts for the week, prep my references, prep my study materials. Sunday Monday Tuesday Studies only. I do studies based on what my main focus will be on my main piece for the week. If its anatomy heavy, ill do anatomy study etc.
Weds Thurs Friday = Work on piece. I use the studies I have done through the week and directly apply them to the piece Im working on. I focus on having the same process and trying to punch higher each piece.
I don't know if that is helpful or makes any sense, if you want more details just let me know. Thats what works for me. I like doing studies, if I didnt I would change this up a bit. Anyways let me know if you have any questions maybe this is helpful.
@Lockenheim Thank you! And don't worry, it made sense and was helpful I like the idea of studying what I'll be drawing later to maximize the result, a very efficient system! Using Saturday to just prepare references also seems like a good idea, I hate havng to collect references every time! XD I'll try to incorporate something like this into my practice.
I don't know if this is a probelm you have, but I often have too many ideas and I don't really know which one to pick. How do you come up with ideas and actually pick the one that's best?
Glad you are feeling better! I often times have many ideas. I typically have the next 2 weeks pieces planned in my mind, so I can incubate them and think over them and consider what I want to accomplish out of them. I just come up with ideas by getting a small thought of something, planting it and letting it germinate in my mind, thinking on it before I sleep and revising it through the two weeks before I do it. Mostly in terms of what I pick to do I think about what skill I want to work on and try to find a piece that would make sense with that skill. For example I wanted to beef up hair and anatomy this week, and last week was clothing rendering. Next week is some different lighting. So mostly I just think of my practice days during the week as practice and the piece for the week the test. If I don't have any ideas then I just do studies, but I really like doing studies so there is that. Id just say pick one and if it doesnt work out its whatever, I have many pieces I don't like but I really just focus on the improvement I dont really care about the piece.
Let me put it another way that may make more sense. I used to do pottery for a hobby and enjoyed it. But I was focused on getting better at the skill, not about making something to take home. So for the first many months I didn't bake anything, I didnt make anything to take home, I just kept throwing bowls and cups and tried to make it as good as I could until it was destroyed. I never cared about taking anything home I just wanted to get better. I think I treat getting better at art the same way. I don't really care about taking home a pretty picture at the end of the day, what I value is getting better. I dont know if that makes any sense or not, and I know Im rambling anyway ADHD take over OK bye.
Wow, it's really been a while! First it was COVID, then I got really focused on making a reference for my original character, that I stopped with my art practice. I hope to build better focus and balance between personal art and practice art in the future!
This is a WIP study! I'm working on a piece with a waterfall and a lot of foliage, so i wanted to get some practice done.
This is the piece in question. An artist I follow is holding a contest, basically, I have to draw a romantic date between two of her characters!
This is my dress design for the girl character:
This is the thumbnail, I really want dynamic lighting in this one. Following a tip from Marco Bucci, I made sure the focal point has the most contrast and then everything else more blurs together.
Any feedback on the design and thumbnail is welcome!

Hello! It's been quite a while since I posted... like nearly three years! Damn! Well, with a new year, I've decided I need to complete this course once and for all. Luckily, since I was last here Marc Brunet created an detailed and helpful schedule for the art course. I'll do my best to follow it diligently. My goal is to complete it by May 2026. I haven't checked the threads of any students yet, but I'm excited to do so!
In the past years I haven't drawn much digitally, so this will be challenge for me. Especially considering I'm using an Intuos pen tablet rather than one with a screen display now. Still, this course is designed with digital artists in mind, so I will do most of my assignments digitally! I want to get the most I can out of the course after all!
In January, I plan to complete the first four weeks of Term 1. I will also be doing a digital illustration as a benchmark for my skills.
Just to get a taste of where I'm at, here's a portrait sketch I did a few months ago:
I'm stoked to return to this journey!
