  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

Hi! this is my final entry to this amazing contest. I had so much fun while designing, painting and re-painting (because yeah, it was not good the first time) this champion.

A brief lore piece: For centuries has human kind praised the gods and celestial beings, but with every generation their true forms were slowly forgotten. Such is the case with Capricorn, ruler of the Southern Lands. She was so full of care and commited, and quite beloved by the mortals. But it was not long before humans started to get dettached from her; that made her anger and rejection burn wilder every single day, until she got fully consumed by wrath.

Nowdays, her sole goal is to teach humans to never turn their backs on a celestial creature.

So this is my final design. I took the "fashion model" approach, and combined it with the betta fish. I wanted to give a demoness kind of vibe, just to convey the fact that she got consumed by evil. Her victims are mostly sailors and other sea-related jobs. With her beautiful looks she awes her victim, so she can steal their soul. If someone resists or tries to escape, her large and strong tail comes into play: reaching great speed and creating currents strong enough to stunt that pur guy/gal who dared to resist.

My approach to the champion art is a ship wreck. It was quite fun to paint oh so many elements while trying to keep everything looking random in nature. Definitely my favorite part to paint was the fire light hitting her. It was very hard to get it looking right, but in the end it worked out and now I feel good haha!

I hope you liked my dark champion, and good luck to all my fellow contstants!

Hi everybody! I'm very excited for this year's ArtWar, and I wish you all the best of luck

I'm trying to push my ideas and develop those creative muscles that last year where very weak, if I'm honest. The pitch of my concept is the Zodiac sign but as an evil sorceress/queen. I think that is a direction few - if any - have gone when humanizing Capricorn.

First I did a little bit of research and assembled a moodboard. here it is:

My main inspiration is the betta fish, as I find it very elegant and noble, yet it could house a decieving nature and that's the twist I'm adding. Haute Couture is also in tune with the betta, and it would give Capricorn that queen vibe I'm looking for.

after a little bit of thinking I came up with some basic ideas for her body and head

I am still exploring what works and how I could give her an elegant but menacing look. It's proving to be quite difficult to mix high fashion and the enchantress haha

8 days later

Hi! I'm uploading more progress images of this character.

I started to refine her features, and I also wanted her to feel like a very bad mannered model, in one way to put it. She absolutely has magic as main weapon/attack, but I'm still trying to land that idea. So far I've come to her final design.

I'm currently working on her colors and her magic, so I'm definitely not done with the concept part

Love the originality of your idea and your mood board is very inspiring! The red, pink and purple colours really pop

second post today! I have some color ideas. Still deciding which route to go

I'm thinking that whichever color scheme is the one that works, her magic could
a)be on the same color family (a la Scarlet Witch)
b)be a complementary color to stand out (Maleficent style)

what do you think?

Looks amazing!
I like the pink, just because it's so unusual to see in the Dark side, (maybe together with some dark shading like the red has could look good?). but all the color combinations look solid to me. I would add some nice lighting to the dark ones so that you wouldn't lose all the detail.
Have you looked at some exotic fish for reference? I think you could find some nice color inspirations there too.

PS hell yea capricorn's the best sign :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks a lot! @Acolet
I'm jumping between the pink, lilac and a little bit the black/violet. I'll test the dark shading on the pink one, for sure.
I'll do a deep dive into some exotic fish references again, thanks for the suggestion!!

ps: scorpio's better (i'm a scorpio  )

Hey!

I started to sketch some ideas for the champion card, as I am happy with her design even if her colors aren't still fully defined haha.

My favorites are the first and third one from the top row, and the second one from the bottom.

More Progress!!!

I pushed a little bith further the color palettes, and I'm quite satisfied with these options.... I feel the red with cyan reads very well, and after some research I learned that the Ruby is Capricorn's crystal. I guess that colors matches on that level as well. (that black splash is supposed to be the smoke coming ouf of her, like Enchantress, and I was testing on wich Capricorn looked better)

Now, about that champion card, here are my two strongest sketches, but I'm VEEEERYYYY torn between both of them, as the both look so strong and send the message across quite well (in my humble opinion). What do you think?!?

the background is a sinking ship on fire (viewed from down under), and the bodies are pirates.

Progress!!

after a quite long weekend (Epiphany Day is very big in Mex!) I've been making and cleaning the final concept art. It's halfway there, but now I don't know if she should have like some sort of jewelry or the likes to look as Her Highness..... guess I'll try that on the small color sketch before commiting to the final piece.

halfway there, her back should look interesting but not as visually strong as her front.
I'm also testing the Final card colors.... trying with green-ish waters just to make it look come cinematic, but I don't know, maybe I'll switch back to blue water

Beautiful concept! Looking forward to seeing your final piece!
