Hey there, to answer your question, this seems like a part of what I mean. In this study you are analyzing the gorilla's muscles. I would be asking myself what the major masses and shapes are and how I can "mentally summarize em" just get to know em if you know what I mean. Like this guy, he's got monster huge masseter muscles that are aesthetically diagonal toward his upper face (diagonals are dynamic and point you towards a focal point) which is dominated by his tiny eyes in big bulging orbits (look at the roof of the orbits, it's practically horizontal) and his flaring nostrils that are angled up and outward.. to the sides hes got a pyramid neck thanks to huge traps and huge dominating delts. going down he's basically a walking abdomen with a large but mostly flat chest - kinda looks like modern mr olympia XD, and kinda short lower extremities accounting for him probably running and climbing with all four members most of the time.
Then I would draw a summarized version of those observations, trying to keep it as clear and simple as possible and then look for pics in nature to capture the gesture of how they look in the wild as that will probably capture their character. Construction I mean basically to draw some of these guys in 3D to get an idea of volumes and how they stick together and yea..
Do note these are a beginner's observations XD I haven't gotten to animal anatomy yet but I have dabbled into animal territory in term 1 so I may be speaking out of my a$$
cheers!
