Help on direction, color wise

I've been primarily a portrait artist. And can do that very well. But this is one of the first times I've tried something fantasy. I feel like I'm a little kid being thrown into water for the first time!
Using a few refs for ideas.
I've studied color some but am definitely no expert.
I'm trying to, firstly, get the drapery right on this head piece and the right colors, along w/proper shadows and highlights. The way I've tried to do it is the more light, the less saturated the color. It's just being started but I'm not sure I like it. Definitely want a blue/aqua vibe.

I think color wise, you should just do some studies of artist you feel do color better than you as well as looking at reference of real cloth.
Right now I can kinda tell you were going for cloth, but, the folds seems all over the place. Right now things seem flat.
I don't know if this is what you might've been going for but here's hopefully some good reference

Totally agree. I was using a ref and how they draped things, rather than go w/my instincts.
The environment has no real spotlight, mostly ambient only.

There is always a light source, even if its weak. Without a proper light source you can't make proper shadows. Sticking to a light source will help you understand and use colours and values.
