@brianhermelijn The link is broken, and typing out manually the the Bit.ly link in the image gives nothing either (I'm pretty sure the link is case sensitive also, so the all caps link wouldn't work anyway).
Just a heads up.
Mini-study session Hiroshi Yoshida
Things I have learned
- Simple 2 or 3 flat colors for most elements
- Textured canvas
- Applied strokes in certain spots
Overall I consider the study session a success. The last result is exactly what I wanted, and will be applying it for the paintings to come, to see how well it works etc. After all, applying another advice from the book "steal like an artist" which is to chew on one thinker before moving to the next.
For the thumbnails I just stay at a 50% zoom sometimes even 25%, and focus mainly on shapes, letting the thumbnails take its own direction.
The brush I used is one I made for myself, but you can find similar brushes in Jaimie Jones Brush Pack. I used to download everyone's brushes, but now I decided to just delete everything and only use the ones I make up. Because you know best what kind of brush you need.
Hope that helps!
ey @achronic Thank you very much for your compliments
Lost the drive a bit for the past 2 days. Was taking a full day sabbatical on Sunday, but then lost the drive to do almost anything for the past 2 days.
But will be back into it by tomorrow morning. Possibly something different, in terms of exploring other exercises etc.
And will be joining Magicbox 2.0 by the end of this month. In case you want to know what that is http://oatleyacademy.com/magic-box/
I have been trying something really different than the usual. And that is to watch a live nature scene and paint from that video. The process I thought could work, wasn’t working at all for the paintings.
So I am still trying to figure out how to go about painting from watching a live video of a nature scene and translating that to the canvas in my own vision
That’s what comes close to “virtual plein-air” painting at the moment, till I can go out in the field with an on-screen tablet to actually paint from the location.
Because what I am most interested in learning is ways to paint the real world and not a static image, so I have to set up methods for now that allows me to feel as if I am at that location. And the method that comes close to that is to watch a live nature scene with the actual sound of that location.
Didn’t finish both of them because I got really really frustrated due of not been able to actually draw and paint what I saw.. so have to scratch my current process and figure out a different process or simply do some exercises that will aid into drawing these scenes that changes every seconds etc.
Any insights or pointers to some sources that can aid with this is always appreciated..
Playing around with Painstorm. Really love the overall feel of the software. A bit laggy, especially with my laptop. But overall, if they fix performance, I see myself purchasing this software in the foreseeable future.
Final processing was done in photoshop. A bit of gaussian blur, noise, sharpness. And also great stress reliever from what I tried yesterday and today. Reminded me to just make the process simple, like for this one, I just grabbed a shot from Ice Age 3, and from the shot compose a frame that I like best.
After that used colors that felt more at home for me, and down to painting I went.
