Hiri's Adventure to become an artist

Hi everyone, I'm Hiri and I am currently learning art on my own and would like to one day be able to work in the creative line for either games or movies. Here is my long road towards that. Comments and critiques to improve are most welcomed.

I am have officially started my term 1 of art school 2 days ago and here are the first two assignments.

Control with my wacom is just something I need to get use to and fast. Will need a lot more practice for sure.

For the last image I had to mask the deep water and color correct it on it's own. Not sure if that was cheating but I just couldn't get it to be the same blue. It was too turquoise.

On to Term 1 Assignment 3.... stay tuned....

Term 1 assignment 4

Manage to squeeze this one in on top of my day job. Skipped assignment 3 for now as I am still drawing a blank on what to comp together for the castle. Seems like a daunting task but I will get to it.

Term 1 Assignment 5 : Healing stamp brush

Manage to have some time during lunch to do another assignment. Just had fun with it tried to see what can and cannot be done with the brush.

Still putting the castle assignment off, still drawing a blank on it. Need to get it done after the next liquify assignment. Also seeing that the next lesson is on the human form for some reason feels like the difficulty is going to just jump to a new level for sure.

Nervously working my way there.

Term 1 Assignment 6

Just finished my root canal... got home, popped some pain pills and knocked this one out.
This was fun and a lot less challenging than the other assignments. I can't wait to see what the rest of the assignments are like.

Term1 Part2 Warm up

Filled up a page of cylinders for a warm up before starting on the human form. Realized I have been sketching too tensely and with little control. Am more aware now on loosening up and practicing hand eye coordination with the Wacom a lot more.

Time to handle the human form!!!!!

Term 1 part 2 Base forms Day 1

Term 1 Part 2 Gestures

How does anyone get anything else done after a session of gesture drawing? It was exhausting like a gym workout. Manage to get some done after my day job.

Trying to get the rhythm and proportions in check. Was very very challenging. Not too sure if I am on the right track.

I think you did a really good job on those gestures!
You really focused on the flow of the figure and it's movements. And yes, very concentrated and deliberate practise is super taxing.
I havent been able to do these sessions at the end of the day because I am so out of gas, thats why I do my drawing practise first thing in the morning before I start my regular day.
Keep up the good work!

Love the varying lines here! There's so much movement in these and you can easily tell each pose. Looking good.

Term 1 part 2 : Body proportion template

So I did this a few times to remember a rough idea on the proportion guidelines. It was a little less intuitive at first but I think it is sticking.

Onwards to more gestures and the next home work.

Jim Lee Gesture Studies

Finally recovered from a nasty bug and back to sketching. Decided to study Jim Lee's comic characters to get a sense of how to get the figures as dynamic as his.

Also looked into how David Finch does his quick gestures/Mannequin lay in for his poses. Need to learn anatomy to have the gestures look better.
