James R- Art School Journey

Hello everyone, my given name is James, it is nice to meet you all!
I have been drawing consistently for about ten years now, I even went to college for art, but I still feel that I am lacking in my art skills and consistency in work, especially the faces of my comic characters.
I hope we can all grow and learn here together.
below are a few pieces I have done in the past and I hope that I can look back at them in a year or two and laugh!

A character design sheet for one of the comics I hope to enter in the International Comic/Manga School Contest!

I really hope to gain a better understanding of color and digital painting in class.

Hello all!
So, this week I decide to start with the figure drawing assignments. I plan on going through one section of the chapter per week i.e. first week nude figure drawing, second week Photoshop for digital production and so on… that said I will be progressing a bit slower but hey if art was a sprint, I would probably fall right out the gate.

Here are a few of my cylinders Drawn over photos.

These are skeletons or wire frames I did while looking at photos.

These next two are photos I observed then tried to replicate them in a set time using eye measurements.

And this is probably my weakest area gesture drawing.

So Two weeks in and working on photoshop assignment for the first term. Since I do not have Photoshop I have been doing my best with “clip studio” and here are the results
The apple bit was fairly straightforward I thought.

it is nice that "Clip Studio" now has a liquify tool but I am still getting the hang of its settings.

The dream house was a fun assignment and took me longer then I thought it would
the color correction assignment was a bit tricky as I have a hard time distinguishing blues apart.

the young to old assignment was fun and my line control was how might I say meditative
Anyway that is it for the new work assignments this week I think after reviewing I will start on the perspective sessions next.

I definitely know what you mean "Meditative" I did the pen control exercise every day for a month when I first started as I had no experience at all. You just get in a trance. Nice work!

Thank you! I need to do the control exercises a bit more. Even though I have been attempting digital drawing for a few years it still feels so different from paper.

So the subject I am muddling through this week is the perspective assignments for the first term I had some fun with this and it also helped me learn how to use some of the perspective rulers in Clip Studio to draw with but also correct me when I went wrong. So with out further ado here is what I’ve got.

This was a quick 15 min exercise with one and two point perspective I’ve been doing these for the last week each day and each day it has felt easier to see where the line are going and need to go.

This was one of my one point perspective room drawings. The thing out the window is meant to be the side of the zeppelin. and here is my two point perspective drawing for the week.
And lastly just a bit of personal art that I think came out look alright, the line work that is the color version won't be seeing the light of day anytime soon.
