  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

  • Thank you @daceronine! If I remember I save in google cloud, I will have to stick a note to do it more often. Lamp is from life. Poses are from refs but I look at refs for a while and then try to do it myself and look it up if needed. Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

Hello everyone !

My name is Johann, I am French and 37 years old. I work as a professional video game translator and have always been fascinated by mangas, illustrations, concept arts, etc. I recently joined Art School in order to improve faster. My end goal is to be able to produce professional looking illustrations and create my own manga... but it is not always easy to find the time (or motication) to practise. Thanks to the Art School community and Marc sensei, I hope I will be able to progress faster and create impressive art for everyone to enjoy

Hi Johann welcome to the forums, I can't wait to see your work and progres

Here are some of my Anatomy term 1 exercices.
- I usually find that being able to place the pelvis makes or breaks the pose.
- I feel quite comfortable with the chest and limbs, but sometimes realized that some of them were wrong anyway, and had to remake them.
- I tend to draw the head at the end of the pose, it felt weird at first, but after a while, I realized that once everything is there, it makes things much easier.

I tried to find interesting poses, I hope these are not too suggestive

I worked a lot more over the past few months, but for the sake of clarity, I will wait for feedback about this particular assignement first. Advice and critics are welcome.

Welcome to the forums! I look forward to seeing your progress! Really nice job with these studies! Keep it up!

Great job mate, not much else to say. I'd move on to the next assignment I reckon. Looking forward to seeing what's next for your art!

I tend to begin my poses with the head, so it was interesting to read you do yours differently. Also, the arms and legs looked pretty solid to me, nice work and welcome to the forums  ! Good luck with your Art School journey.

Here is my photobash assignement. It probably would take more time to produce something more "professionnal", but I think the end result could fool someone who does know much about Photoshop.
On the + side:

(+) The castle looks like one set, even though they are 2 different castles
(+) The girl kinda looks like she is part of the picture, maybe she should be darker. Her shadow looks good though lol.
(-) When I cut out the castle, I should have kept part of the ground to make it look like it is not right in the water, but I was too lazy to start over.
(-) The added shadow on the right part of the castle is probably too dark.

That was fun. My dream is to be able to be a good mangaka/illustrator, so I don't want to spend too much time on this, but I see the interest. I might try another photobash when I have more time.

Here are some cubes and 1 point perspective room practises (my kitchen and a SF bedroom). I had never learnt the actual rules of perspective before, but since I have been fiddling around for quite some time, it felt quite natural really quickly. I think everything is "correct" and does not break the laws of physics, but feel free to tell me if I am wrong.

At some point, I will need to learn to do all this in Photoshop. This SF bedroom would look quite cool with proper lineart and some light, but it feels really slow compared to pen and paper at the moment. I still use a screenless Wacom Intuos, so it feels like I am drawing with my left hand T_T

Comments and feedback is more than welcome !

The photobashing assignment looked pretty good to me. And your perspective assignments were good as well. The cubes are fairly correct, and look to be placed well. Good work!

Nice work with these perspective assignments!I really like the cubes stacked on eachother!

Drawing them seperetaly felt quite easy, I had the feeling I was following a recipe. So I tried to stack them up. Overlapping convergence lines made it quite difficult to draw balanced cubes, but it was more time-consuming than anything else. I think I will dive into the term 2 assignments soon. I would like to remake the Sci-Fi room in Photoshop with more details and light too, I feel like I could get a much polished end result. I just need to find the time (and the courage when I have time - what a lazy bastard).

Ooh, I love your perspective assignments, I personally stuggled with them as I find it hard to focus on that task a while back, but yours look great!

Thanks ! One of my friends just lent me a screen drawing tablet, so I will polish some of them and try figure drawing with it too. Really excited about it, because it feels really hard with the Intuos compared to pen & paper. I just need to finish my work first T_T

Hey, Perspective assignments are on point, lines are clean and the perspective looks correct awesome job Keep it up.

Hello everyone. I am quite busy drawing/painting these days, so I need to find some time to post. I assume this is a good problem to have

Anyway, one of my friends lent me his screen tablet Huion Kamvas 16. As I said, I am really not comfortable figure drawing with my Intuos (because no screen and shitty eye/coordination), so I was really eager to try the screen tablet. As expected, things are much smoother. However, this made me realize that using a pen tablet is much closer to painting than drawing. I like SOME of my figure drawings with pen and paper, but never managed to get a satsfying result with a pen tablet. I realized this is beacause I try to draw the way I would with a pen. After a lot of die and retry, I now understand that I need to set up my brush if I want to do that.

What are YOUR settings when you do figure drawing ? Here is what I got with a 5 pixels brush and sensitivity ON for everything. I might remove opacity sensitivity in the near future.

First two are 30 second poses. I find 2 of them are pretty sharp (will we agree on that ? ). It makes me realize that sharp angles for clear defined shapes really give a nice feel.

3 and 4 of 1mn gesture. They are more accurate and complete, but lack the expressiveness of the sharp 30s ones.

Last two are 5 minutes. I added the reference for "beautiful slender model" as it made me realize that when polishing, the devil is in the details. I placed everything by eye and did not check features all together. In the end, everything is too far apart, or too short, or too something. I guess this is why I find men much easier to draw, so many muscles and landmarks to place that you can't have HUGE fails.

Tell me what you think. Any constructive criticism is welcome.
