Hey everybody my name is Kai.

During the first covid lockdown here in germany I started to practice drawing as a new hobby. I enjoyed it a alot so a couple weeks ago purchased the art school program to level up in digital drawing!

I'm doing the program with procreate and I'm currently in the nude drawing topic of term 1. I haven't done all of the photoshop assignements because the color adjustments part was pretty hard with procreate (tried it in affinity designer were it was much easier).

I will post some of my first assignements and exercise I have done over the last couple weeks. Feedback is very welcome

While listening to the proportions part of the Term 1 - Nude Figure Drawing section I tried the proportions without grid. Pretty happy with the result. Clearly not perferct, but will practise this more.

Good job! I recommend everyone to not use a grid after learning the proportions because we do need practice with drawing things without the measuring tools.

The last days I worked on drawing a figure with the measuring techniques shown in Term 1. This is really tricky and definitely needs some practise.

I have tried three different figures and already saw the improvements. It is super Important to look for the horizontal and vertical lines. All of my tries have major problems, but the number of big mistakes reduced from try to try. I used a drawn lines with the height of the head for measurement.

Puh, these 30/60 sec gesture drawings are way harder than expected. Getting the proportions right is really not easy. But this is cool way to warm up. I'm excited to see my progress in the next days. I will definitely practice all the assignment task more, before I move on to the next term.

Also did one more figure drawing.

I'm having proportion problems as well with my gesture drawings so I know the struggles haha.

For your 60 second sketches I'm seeing that you're focusing more on drawing the full outline of the figure rather than focusing on the gesture.
I advise you to find the full gesture of the pose and sketch that out first before tackling the general outline / form of the figure.
As you do more and more gesture drawings you might not need to sketch out the gesture before adding the forms, but as of now finding that gesture is more important.

That is a very good advice, thank you! This could be the problem why I find my 60sec drawings less appealing. I bet the proportions will look a lot cleaner when I focus on the outline/form first. Will keep that in mind. Thanks!

Okay, my gesture drawings starting to look a bit better. Still not happy with my 60sec once, but getting there. Also getting better at drawing the proportions without grid and looking to much at Marc's version.

Have to tackle a full figure drawing again in the next days

Nice progress! I really like how clean and sharp your cylinders are. Some of them are a little off in perspective but overall they look great!

For your gesture drawings, especially the 30 second ones I think you'd benefit from some advice an old art teacher I had in college told me that helped me at the time. Stop thinking, and try to be as loose as possible.
At the moment it feels like rather than express the movement in the pose, your taking time to get the size and pose right.

I'm really focusing quite a lot on the proportions when doing my gesture drawings. That's because my first tries were super off. Super long legs for example. But I will keep your advice in mind and try to be more loose. The proportion part will probably come with time and more practice.

Ahhh yeah that makes sense, As far as my awareness goes, you shouldn't worry too much about getting the proportions right in your gesture drawings, and save the proportion studies for your figure drawings /studies.

The goal is just to capture the movement

Managed to do another figure drawing (i'm back at work, so my time is limited again). I'm still struggling a lot with the measuring. It feels like it takes forever to get the figure quite right. If I try to mark the joins first, it always a mess. So I try to measure nearly every part.

Is it more useful to mark the joins, draw a rough outline and then fix with measuring? My approach feels so slow.

But in the end i'm pretty happy with my result, even the the left thigh is a bit to thick.

Had a little bit of fun with cylinders and spheres today. Will start with the perspective term soon, since I already have some knowledge in that topic. But I will definitely keep practicing the figure and gesture drawings

Hey, haven't posted in a while. Started working on the perspective assignments. I drew my little office room and gave it a rounded roof. Haven't added all details yet, will probably add more later. Feel free to give some feedback :))

Looks good! Nice work! The only thing I saw was the window on the far back wall. It looks as though it is to be recessed backwards, if that is the case if you add lines in the corners it will help show that! Here is what I mean.

Hopefully this is helpful, I am new so take this with a grain of salt that it may not be 100% correct but it has worked for me! Keep up the good work!
