  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

1/31 Figure Drawing Practice
Had time to watch only about 30mins of the Perspective video and do a page full of 30sec poses. I'm just exhausted to be honest. I've been having a really rough few days. But it'll look up soon!

Tomorrow I'll start the perspective room since I'm almost done watching that section of the video. In the meantime - I'm pretty okay with how these turned out! They're not all super clear (looking atchu 3rd from the top right >_>) but I feel myself getting more comfortable/less anxious doing them. Interrupting that perfection mindset.

Solid work! I especially like that one with arms out on their knee in the middle. Great job getting less anxious with these I am still struggling with that haha!

Thank you! I really recommend "Line of Action" cause when you sign up they have this little tutorial that is super short (like 5mins lol) but for some reason I was anxious the whole way through and finishing it gave me confidence. I think it really is remembering that these exercises are just for you. Nobody even really has to see it.

Figure Drawings 2/2
Today was so roughhhh! Not the drawings - just my life lol! But these were fun. I moved to my tablet because I figured it was good to get super comfortable with figures on my tablet and I feel like I'm making a lot of progress both with being comfy with the tablet and being comfy with figures!

Today I actually tried to focus on using less lines since the first few times I just focused on getting the pose down and I think it went pretty well. :smile_cat:

Perspective 1 - Assignments 1 & 2
These were fun. I had done a lot of these by hand when I was doing DrawABox so I was pretty familiar, but I believe the way I learned 2-pt was a little different in DrawABox so it was interesting to revisit for sure. I just really like straight lines. I'm just really bad at freehanding them so I like had to do all of these with the line-tool which is sad.

Perspective 1 - Assignment 3
Not gonna lie. This was rough for me! I wanted to do a sci-fi room but my room in my home is so small! And my childhood room is what i used but I couldn't remember every aspect so even working without actual source material made me so stressed lol.

But it was a good exercise for my brain. I just definitely felt like close to tears in the beginning haha! But it. got done to the current best of my ability. And it's not sci-fi at all but it is a bedroom!

Haha I feel you! Perspective is very interesting from a technical standpoint, and can be as complex as you want it, but dang, drawing environments can be very difficult
One thing someone mentioned here in the forums is to separate the furniture a bit from the walls (just a bit) to add depth. Also, on the windows, I saw a japanese anime tutorial and they mentioned the importance of showing the depth at the windows (the tiny thickness of the borders and how they interact)

cheers!

I just definitely felt like close to tears in the beginning haha!

Oh damn, that's an interesting observation. :flushed:

The perspective drawing looks great. Try to add more curve object (e.g. lamp) and the left shelf looks weird as it doesn't fit with 1 point perspective unless the design is purposely unique.

Good luck!

i know the feeling, when i was doing this assignment i struggled so much that i just did my normal room XD

Yeahhh I definitely half-assed the extra details for sure. I just drew the little flower pots for just a little more something but probably should have left everything empty if I wasn't going to add anything to the other surfaces. But thank you for the critique!

As for the book shelf - it definitely looked off to me as well, but it's because the "straight" lines at the top are the end of the book case and it's above the horizon line, so you can see the "top" of the bookcase on the inside for the first time instead or the bottom. Definitely looks super off so probably should have just left an open top for the bookcase but bleh.

Yeahhh, it was hard. I remember studying it a little bit in a college beginners' drawing class and thought I had it down but I definitely do not lol! This was my first time trying to draw perspective without a reference and boy it shows.

And Ooh that's a good point. No furniture actually touches the walls. I'll definitely try and focus on line weight for depth when I do another perspective drawing. Thanks!

I appreciate your honesty about fighting anxiety to get to drawing and pushing through to the end despite the tears - you’re not alone! Awesome that you’re drawing anyway despite that, you know!
Your figure drawings look great, and your perspective piece feels like a nice spacious room. (Oh man I appreciate the tip about the furniture from other commenters!) Looking forward to seeing more!

Nice work! It seems you are already getting the fundamentals pretty well. Perspective in particular can be very challenging.

I noted others already provided the same points I was about to mention, so it seems I don't have much else to add, except that it seems like your lines have been getting progressively more "clear", like there's more confidence in doing a line in one go instead of slowly building the drawing through different strokes.

That's a piece of advice I personally have found very helpful, when making lines, especially digitally, it's ok to do a single confident stroke instead of "several strokes". You can always undo and redo the stroke as many times as necessary until you get the "right line". Eventually it helps create cleaner lineart for the rest of the drawing. Hopefully that makes sense.

Your figure drawings in particularly are showing this, that is, more confident strokes, which is great.

Perspective 1 - Assignment 4
Ugh. Why'd this drainnnn me??? I should have just drawn one building. Especially since I thought of a skyscraper design for that right one, and the other two are most definitely not sky scrapers. I'm thinking just a fancy apartment next. to a corner store now lol!

Also, that "1 month later" is guilting me! But I swear I've been doing figure drawings here and there haha. I feel terrible that I fell off but the perspective stuff was kind of really draining to me.

I feel you
Sometimes we bite more than we can chew and one thing that can happen is we fall into a trap of avoidance because we dread the excessive work

I am sure there are a million approaches and I am by no means an expert but I did feel this with the room assignment - I would feel dread thinking about it and guilt from avoiding it. Really weird.

I recommend to circumvent it to not compromise. It’s open school here, no grades no worries you just have to go at your own pace. Given that, you can just do these for yourself and make sketchy works, easier to do more of them and less worries or you can slowly add more to one piece over time and focus the rest of your energy on other things/assignments etc

Getting small things done give that feeling of satisfaction and motivation that you need for the bigger things. That’s why gesture and small doodles also really help me. If I am not sure I can go through it, I tell myself to at least do a couple doodles or gestures and suddenly you get in the zone. Works for me anyways

Hopefully my incoherent ramblings are helpful in your journey 😅

Cheers!

Thank you for the tips!
Yes, every perspective assignment made me want to procrastinate. With the 2-point, I was doing it but felt like I was doing it wrong because I saw what other people did and felt bad.

Definitely just need to get in the habit of sketching small things I can be a lil proud of everyday to keep my motivation up. Thanks again! Glad I'm not alone.

Figure Drawing Practice - 3/18 & 3/20
Just wanted to post my current figure drawing practice. Just trying to get super comfortable with these and even comfortable to messing up my lines, even as I slowly decrease the amount I need. It's been fun, but not yet relaxing at all haha! I find myself over tensing up and reminding myself to use my shoulder for strokes often.

10 days later

Love your perspective studies!, And those gestures are amazing!.
You'll get used to using your whole arm in not too long, takes some time getting used to, but once you're there there's no going back. Keep grinding!.
