Hi all! This seems to be the place to post the random rambling bits of things that I want to post up. I rather like posting up process items and sketches and look forward to sharing with everyone here.

Couple fun sketches to share today.

I have been trying to find another good painting/drawing program to replace Photoshop but I just haven't come across any that feel as good or handle liquefy as well. I tested out Affinity Photo, Krita, Corel Painter, paintstormStudio, and a few others I am blanking on, but none of them worked to replace Photoshop.

I am now messing around with auto-desk sketch book and paintstormstudio as like thumbnail programs before moving over to Photoshop.

Anyone have some recommendations on other programs to try? Ideally do most of what Photoshop does for drawing, with perspective guides and no recurring payments. Yeah, kinda looking for a unicorn, don't think it exists.

To be honest you probably tried the biggest chunk of them. Maybe GIMP? but i dont really remember what it does as i worked in it at school in like 2002 or sumth.
I think Corel Painter is a very strong tool to know how to use. It has more advanced mechanics of imitating certain mediums, for instance dry acrylic brush which you can use to lay the colour down and smudge it at the same time. (Sinix Design uses it a lot)
Krita is also a good replacement for a photoshop,
however, personally I am stuck with Photoshop as it is the first program that I ever had on my pc so I am just really comfortable with it. But I also go to Corel Painter time to time.

Did these for the artstation challenge. Of course this morning I read some posts that the mod made about how they felt and noticed at the bottom they are sick of seeing landscapes for environments. Ahh well! There are much better people than me doing work on there, its just fun to learn new things and push it.

Little color and shapes update on the sketch from before.

Trying to get better and more aggressive with color. I might be too fond of grey.

Current landscapes that I am working on. I would love any comments or ideas that people have to improve them. Color is barely implemented so far, so just think of them as greyscales if you can.

I really dig your landscapes !
can't say anything useful about it as I haven't reached those terms where we paint landscapes yet.
Maybe only one thing and it will be this boiling pot that looks a bit out of place due it's value range coz it's pretty bright for it's spot (first picture) coz everything else is faded around it

I really like those landscapes! The rough and textured style is pretty cool. As @echo_jk said, the cauldron looks a little bit off in the first one, but beyond that I love the atmospheric effect. The second one is probably my favorite. There's just something about it that really appeals to me.

Thanks guys, I am messing with reflections and texturing on the focus areas now. I toned back that cauldron a ton and blended it more. Ill post again when the images are final because this is all detail work at this point and its kinda boring.

Alright, here is the green swamp finished and the small story to go with it. One of my favorite pieces to date. Many thanks to @marc for helping me out on the weekly Artschool stream.

The new recruit to the kings guard has been sent off to the Green
Swamps. The Elder Mother of a nearby town has gone missing, the captain
sent the recruit to placate the towns folk and to stop the rumors of a
witch stealing people away.

There will soon be a missing recruit, and no one will care.

After messing around a bunch and trying to think about what I was told/did with the last one I polished off the other swamp shot. And I have a story going through my head now, so that's good! Poor recruit, its going to be a rough ride for him.

Further into the swamp a large clearing, stripped of the trees used to construct the altar, the witch drags the recruit.
Signs everywhere that there is more than one witch, and far more than one missing Elder Mother.

New one in this series of landscapes. Now sadly I kind of skipped a couple steps because of no reason in particular. This will be at the edge of the swamp, that is a mud fall on the right side of the image, need to find how to draw one of those, for now its just dark sludge.

So here is the image after the suggestions from Marc on the Artstream, I do rather like the changes. I also flipped it again because I do that nonstop and liked it better like this with the changes. The only thing I didn't do was crop it shorter because I wanted to leave a bit of a spacial gap between the cliffs and the nests on that side. Instead I split the cliff into two layers, which I think accomplishes much the same thing and adds a bit more depth to the image again. Because depth is fun!

And here is the sheet that the idea came from. I rather enjoy the whole "pulling order from chaos" thing. There is always a plan, but having some marks down really helps move things along.
