- Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?in24.5k
- Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with youin1.5k

- Thank you @daceronine! If I remember I save in google cloud, I will have to stick a note to do it more often. Lamp is from life. Poses are from refs but I look at refs for a while and then try to do it myself and look it up if needed. Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!in49.0k
Looks good, I’d suggest trying it in more perspectives though! If you’re learning anatomy, drawing the same perspective over and over again doesn’t really teach you anything beyond a point. The goal is to understand the three-dimensional form and if we only know how it looks from one perspective it would be pretty counter-productive. Obviously, repetition is important — but if you’re just doing the same exact thing over and over without a clear goal it’ll take a lot longer to improve.
I was also looking at your circles practice — I’d really recommend the drawabox.com lessons. Doing his lessons (which are 100% free!) will teach you not only fundamentals about line confidence but also give you a very solid ground of 3D forms. His courses also taught me how to practice with a clear goal in mind so I can progress faster! Hope this helps : )
(p.s. I’ve only been drawing for like 9-10 months now so take my advice with a grain of salt.)
Hi, thank you for posting here about the anatomy, I have been drawing anatomy for a while now and I already know how to did draw the ear in different perspectives that were just a reminder on the structure of the ear
(i guess I didn't make that clear my bad
) and about the drawabox course I already did drawabox for the first 3 months of my drawing I think i was done with lesson 3 when I moved to art school, But thank you for the feedback
To answer your questions:
1. I think doing the circles with the cross is good. To make the feedback loop faster, you can grab some dividers and check yourself if you circles are really circular.
2. regarding the proportions of the head: you can also create your own feedback loop by taking a reference image of a head, construct it 1:1 by measuring out the proportions and landmarks and regularly double check them.
I am very big on creating your own feedback loops wherever possible, that way you can identify mistakes yourself without having to wait for the community to tell you. Sometimes coming up with a feedback loop is kinda tricky, but with the stuff you are currently learning, i think its quite doable.
If you have any questions about that, feel free to ask.
With feedback loop I mean that you design your drawing practise in a way that allows you to spot your mistakes quickly. By noticing these mistakes you can specifically work on those mistakes to get better.
An example of a very basic feedback loop would be:
1. you are practising drawing straight lines
2. after doing 5-10 lines freehand you grab a ruler and check if your lines are actually straight or not
3. then you identify what kind of mistakes you made (are the lines curving? Do they miss the end point? Etc.)
4. after identifying your mistake you try again, focusing on doing the exercise differently in order to get a better result.
5. and repeat that process until you are satisfied with what you get.
✌️👍
Sorry, I have to keep this brief.
1. When things are in perspective thy get smaller. So when considering things cut in half, the half in the back needs to be shorter than the half in the front.
2. Try tracing circles to get a better idea of how they should be and to train your muscle memory.
3. I wouldn't try to do extreme angles like this until you learn more about perspective and creating forms. The angle in the reference is different from what you drew. Over time you'll develop better sensitivity to how forms rotate in space.
When doing extreme angles you have to really think about each part in it's basic form and how the lines wrap around these forms. Then think about that they look like from the bottom and top. Once you do more one and two point perspective assignments this will get easier.
- Be careful with the lines of the facial features. You're unable to see the hair line at this angle, so you should only have two lines wrapping around. I almost made the same mistake when correcting these.
Also also, try to keep the lines close to the same distance. The bottom part is longer but not by that much.
I really suggest tracing these forms over real faces and the 3-D model.
Hope this helps!
Thank you so much! this is very helpful!
Yes i see i will work on that tomorrow
Regarding the circles i started tracing perfect circles since yesterday and it helped me a lot i just didn't post any drawings
i didnt mean to go for the tilt in the reference its just that its hard to rotate the 3d model to look straight so thats why the reference was a bit tilted what i was aiming for was the head that looks up. i will try again tomorrow to draw the head looking up since you showed me how to draw it but this time i will use correct reference
Did 40 heads in total today felt really good about them ... here is some heads looking up (I know I was told to give up on them but I'm stubborn ) let me know if they work did them in a slightly less extreme angle now, I will start with the 250 cylinder challenge and tomorrow I will do some heads looking up again and will focus on head looking down wish me luck
Great to see these! I feel like the forms are getting better and better.
I actually think the best one is the the third on from the left on the top row. The chin is sticking out enough and it has a lot of form. The upright tilt also looks good.
The last one on the bottom has the chin too close to the sphere and it looks a little uneven.
The ones looking down look really good! I can see a ton of improvement in those.
Back from work ready for my secound "work"
Anyway did the usual warmups and 10 heads looking up this time i had a bit different refernce
Started to number my drawings so its easier to give feedback
I did a bit more extreme angle for fun on heads nr 2 and 7 with out reference so it might look bad Also on head nr 5 was my first perfect circle by hand lol
PS: I know, my handwriting sucks
today i'm felling extra motivated because i was checking out DeviantArt at work on lunch break and saw my fav artists new drawings so did some extreme looking down heads bcs why not lol (will post 10 more don't feel that tired today)
Those are the artists I'm talking about:

I'm inspired to draw like them someday although I'm well aware that it will take years if not decades lol but I'm ready for the long grind
