Was going to write a long one but in the end I was just down and burned out due to life stuff. And haven't done much art X_X

Here's my first piece in a while, just something to have some fun and take that ever daunting first step when you put something aside for too long

I realize that I’ve never gone through your stuff since your initial message on my journey a while back, but scanning through everything, especially in the recent months, I think your progress has been incredible and I hope that one day I’ll be able to firmly step into the space you’re in Snakker! Thanks for the kind remarks! I'm really glad to be back, it's been too long of a break - just been way too busy these days and low on energy.

So posting some random doodles from imagination here. And was meaning to ask, how do you guys smudge? I remember starting out rendering I would do the whole alt click and make gradients that way, but ever since doing more and more heads on procreate, the smudge tool there is just so damn good, I can't get the same results with photoshop. It feels like I am using a blur tool brush rather than a smudger, played with strength and brushes but no cigar.

how do you guys smudge?

i use the blend tool rather than smudge. i dont think ive ever really liked using smudge cus it gives off a finger vibe like u dragged ur finger across where as blend makes it look... well, nicely blended haha

i think u just gotta transform + tilt the eyes a bit and maybe use some liquify to make em a bit more happy lol

Hey, welcome back!

how do you guys smudge

i don't really use the smudge tool. To render, and even to draw, i mainly use the base soft round brush of photoshop, i mostly play around with the size, opacity and color pick to get the result i want. To me, at least, it feels like a pencil.

Oh wow, that’s interesting. I tend to avoid that brush particularly as in my hands i feel it gives off too much of a digital vibe. Only times I’ve used it were to render selections in hard bodies like walls. I’ll also give this a try, thanks

Hey Snakker! Cool fanart! I feel like you lost a bit of perspective in the sniper rifle and rotated just a bit. And, her head seems a bit too wide the likeness is almost there just have a second look at the reference image

how do you guys smudge?

I use a custom smudge brush because Photoshop's defaults don't achieve the look I'm going for, which is more of a blend than a smudge.

I like the bushy one from this video - its what I use for the most part. Eventually I'll look into making more once I get more into material rendering.
