Hello!

In this thread I'm going to upload picures of my progress from term 1 of Marc Brunet's Artschool! I'm not going to post pictures in any particular order.

Constructive criticism is always welcomed

At first I was like "nah man, I don't need to draw cylinders" - but it turns out it is more challengin to draw nice cylinders than I thought it would be. These are the first batches of cylinders of many! I think I'll fill a canvas with cylinders every day just to practice my pen control!

I won't upload every single canvas with cylinders, but I think I'll post these once in a while to see my progress

Here I've filled in some of the nude figure drawing assignment. It's not perfect, but drawing the cylinders have really exercised the perspective of the limbs! I actually think I'm starting to understand the perspective of the human body and how to make them seem 3D on paper just by drawing these cylinders

Yup, just goes to show that basic shapes are challenging and realize how much you dont really know. Keep on grinding, your doing good so far.

Here I've uploaded the pen control assignment that I've filled. This is the 2nd time I've filled this, and I sadly didn't think to save or upload the first one I did

But here is the 2nd one. It's not perfect, but I'm planning to do this pen control assignment a couple of time per week. I'm hoping that by the next couple of months I'll be able to see improvements as long as I'm disciplined and keep going at it!

One good tip to keep in mind with cylinder perspective is the oval shape curvature you make on one end will have the same exact curve on the other end. Same also applies for the 'form' lines. However on your figure drawings you seemed to have gotten that down. Good job!

Taking a page out of Ardeey's book I'm drawing these cylinders as a progression from one perspective to the other! I think I'm doing a much better job now of drawing cylinders than the first time I tried

The circles are looking nicer, the bottom curve is beginning to match the top more and all that. I think this is the 5th set of cylinders I'm drawing

Hi, good improvements already.I like the figure analysis work and that you are practicing your 3d volumes. The last exercise you posted is a great idea Id say to practice it with boxes as well.
Also I think it would be worth doing a few pages of ellipse drawings every day if you can. Like Marcs circle trace exercise, but just many many more of all different sizes and degrees.

I think this example is a really nice way to visualize how ellipses work in perspective.

Thanks for the reference! I'll definitely trace over these just to get it into my muscle memory : D

2 months later

Nice Effort so far!. Use your forearm more and do a lot of them!

The squiggleness is due in part to you being TOO CAREFUL. Just let her Rip!
