Hey all. I joined artschool with the goal of becoming skillful enough to get a job at the gaming industry as a character concept artist. Decided to post since its been exactly a year since i joined, so ill take this as a ckeckpoint.
Heres a comparisson of where i started vs now. Really happy about the progress! Will update as soon as i have something more.
welcome to the forums! your art is pretty good!
So heres March 2022, was excited of finally turning gestures into manequins, felt really good. Faces, still lame haha Perspective was not a big deal since i graduated from architecture, still hand drawing perspective was not my daily, was more used to 3d modelling.
April 2022, finally started studying anatomy! Had a lot of fun although i thought my progress was getting slowed by the hours of studying, but patience payed off at the end, and the time spent on this was actually the best i could have done. Also did a progress checkpoint at that time, was weak on pretty much evertything lol Faces... getting there, i guess 😅
thank you so much!!
these studies look awesome!!!
Yo snakker here, local noob - welcome aboard!
Looking good, it’s awesome seeing the progress
I hope you keep posting, some of the feedback I have received on these forums has been invaluable to me as I progress
Cheers!
Love how curvy your "stick figures" are! They're very nice to look at and good at getting that essence of the poses! Super good.
That's is a awesome progress for a years work, welcome to the forums, keep posting, besides the feedback part, is a good way to check how far you have come
May/Jun/Jul 2022 Just a ton of practice. Doing character design and trying to improve anatomy, materials, rendering, composition, values 😮💨 etc... overall juggling several topics and wishing they came together at the end. Heres some of the "best"!
Aug/Sep/Oct 2022 Were big months since i started to notice that i have actually improved a bit, so i was excited and motivated. (still am) Also took the airi pans course on schoolism which made a huge difference when talking about values and composition.
October was actually when i started what is going to be my final project for artschool. A set of characters for a fighting island. First was fencing inspired, second one was volleyball inspired.
Nov/Dec 2022 Were crucial since i wanted to put together a portfolio with at least 3 characters that could speak for my set of abilities. Didnt make it on time lol in fact, still on it. Maybe its because i went with different approaches/extents with it so i could cover as much as i could.
Well here are the final results of this 2 months. 2 finished character. I still feel slow when working but since idk the industry normal pace i have no idea.
Fencing:
Volleyball:
And finally to sum up my ArtSchool anniversary, January 2023. I have not yet finished my 3rd character. but here is progress so far. It has been really an incredible journey so far and i hope it only gets better. (ups and downs included) ✨
Baseball:
Will do! Thanks for the kind words.
wow these are amazing!! your art is so cool
Thank you so much!! It means a lot 🖤
Rendering looks really nice! Keep up the awesome work!
It’s really awesome work! Is it 100% from imagination or do you use something to help you plan out that rendering?
Cheers
Thank you!! ill try to keep it up!
Thanks a lot! I use style and real life reference for each material. In this specific case i wanted to do wood the "hearthstone style" so i searched for examples. For the cloth i found no examples on style so i searched for real life baseball uniforms and tried to stylize it to match the overall look i wanted.
Hope this helps!
