Last day of the free week, I was working on some gestures today. I didn't time them because right now I am really trying to iron out the issues I have with gesture right now. I think the last 2 came out ok? Now that I am using the technique the Harsh showed me a couple nights ago I feel like I am starting to make some actual progress.

First day of week 8. I did some gestures, then started work on the street corner. Already this is fairly difficult as I haven't broken down an actual building yet, the level of detail makes it somewhat difficult to replicate sometimes.

Today I finished off the street corner assignment. I will try and at least get a couple of environment copies done by the end of the week.

Good job! Perspective holds really well and the lines are crisp. As you're doing so well for the next one I'd try to challenge yourself and add some line weight

ahhh maybe. I used the straight line tool a ton for this so I am not sure how I would get line weight across? Also I don't know a whole lot about line weight.

To be honest I am learning about it myself and just try to implement as much as I can (but it makes drawings look lots better and easier to read). By general rule - things that are closer to you have thicker lines than those further away and big/heavy things have thicker lines than small/ flimsy objects or details. It's also a good way to work on your pressure control.
In terms of how to achieve it
Easy way - change your line thickness when you use them - a few points will make a big difference and make people focus on the drawing differently. The hard way - freehand as much as you can - frustrating at the beginning but worth it.

The thickness variation can be done in Photoshop in a less freehand way but this method is not perfect and often unpredictable. If I use the shortcut, then it involves a lot of back and forth to shape the respective line in a way that I am satisfied with.

Term 1 is now ending for me. I have already learned a ton in these 8 week, and have put out more art in them than I ever have. I'm looking forward to starting term 2. I put this together to show some of my progression, in particular with gesture and lineart copies.

Ok, starting out term 2. i tried to make the logo assignment look good, but I think that either the layer editing system works differently in Krita, or I am missing something, because I wasn't able to do a lot of things like gradients on my logo. That, and I wasn't totally sure what I was doing, more trying things to see if they looked good. Tomorrow I will try and make the 2d sprite character, though it may take some fiddling because Krita doesn't have a pen tool.

I am really considering moving on from the photoshop for digital production A assignment and working on the self portrait in what remains for this week. I'm having a lot of trouble with stuff like the Bezier curve tool in Krita working differently than how it does in PS, etc. Just think it may be better to work on the self portrait and get a somewhat good result rather than bang my head into a wall for something I probably won't use again.

I started working on the self portrait today, but due to errands and what I think might be a cold I wasn't able to do as much as I liked. Drawing off a mirror was very different to drawing off a digital reference like I am used to. I will work on it more tomorrow, as right now my face looks too wide and too narrow at the same time.
