  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

Hello Everyone! Thanks for your welcome.
Not sure how to continue sharing my progress in the same topic, so I replied my own post. If someone knows another way to do It, I would be grateful if you tell me: ).

TERM 1
Week 2 Figure Drawing

This week I focused in pen control exercises and figure drawing, so I guess I'll finish photoshop assignments little by little.

Feelings:
* It seems to me a little hard to control the pen digitally in the tablet (I have a WACOM intous CTL-480), specially when drawing circles. but daily exercises proposed by Mark have helped me a lot to improve pen control.

  • I think I should organize better my drawing exercises .
  • I have limited time a long the week so my pace won't be as fast as I would expect, But I keep doing the excercises at least 6 days a week.
  • I thought it would be easier to use liquify tool.

Figure drawing along thi week.

Last Cylinders excercise.

Use of Liquify tool

Open to any feedback. Thanks a lot : )

haha yep thats how ur supposed to do it

for the cylinders i can tell you used transform on some of them (I think - unless thats just how they came out) since there are some that are pretty ovally XD

i'd say try drawing a circle and copy and paste that circle, shrink it and move it to the back and then connect the lines if you'd like to use transform but i dont recommend using transform on the whole entire thing

Overall its not bad

I usually just reply to my own latest post. Seems to work out well.

Don't sweat it, we all have different schedules and life situations, any pace you have is a good pace.

For the cylinders, based on the strokes it seems like you draw both ends, then the lines, and then the half lines in between. For the most part it's a good idea to draw each circle complete, with the lines bing the guideline that brings them together, then erase extra lines to clean it up. Something like this:

It's all digital, so feel free to use as many layers, rotation, flips and undos as necessary. Many of us actually have undo tied to an easy shortcut we can use so we can "redraw" those lines as many times as needed until it looks "just right". One single stroke might take a few quick tries, and you get faster doing them with time.

It also helps to get used to using the shoulder and elbow more for long strokes, lines or circles. Gets a bit to get used to, and you might not use it all the time, but all the same it helps to practice it.

Bests of luck!

Hello, looking good with the figures, keep at em!

As for cylinders, when in doubt draw an elongated box in perspective to enclose them, as you practice you eventually eyeball it all. Another quick way is to make some radiating lines into a vanishing point on the long axis of the cylinder to guide you at making the far end smaller

Cheers!

Thanks a lot @daceronine, I'm not used to draw in digital yet, and sometimes I forget to take advantage of that. In the other hand, the movement with the shoulder it's relativeliy new for me. I'll keep practicing

You're doing pretty good so far. Keep it up.

Hello again! Thanks again for your feedback and your advices :).

TERM 1
Week 3 Figure and Gesture Drawing

This week I started top 10 drawing exercises and keep focusing in pen control, figure drawing and gesture drawing. Still pending some photoshop assignments and accomplishing them little by little.

Feelings:

  • Still struggling drawing circles, but I continue seeing some progress performing them, and not only in circles but in all kind of lines.
  • Sometimes not sure which kind of pen sensitive have to use in each
excercise, so I'm still doing experiments.
  • I'm not able to follow Mark's weekly study proposal pace, but the
method seems to me effective. I feel as if I were in a drawing Gym.
  • I already had experience in gesture drawing in traditional method,
but in digital, It feels harder; Anyway, when you only have 30 seconds to draw, the preasure to draw fast at the end makes you to increase the confidence in tracing increases the confidence in tracing.
  • 1 character of 5  ; As I said, not easy to follow the pace
  • Don't know why I completely forget to draw cylinders exercise this
week, I need to do it next one and improve.

    Figure drawing along this week.

Last Gesture drawing exercise this week.

Top 10 exercises this week.

1 character study this week.

I'll keep trying to follow the pace and improving digital pen control. Thanks again for all your feedback

Heeey that chracter study looks REALLY good! Keep it up!

Don't worry about the pace, we each eventually follow the pace and the companion guide in whichever way best works for us. Ideally you want to follow and do as much as possible, but sometimes we simply don't have enough bandwith and will tweak the tasks to fit within our bandwith.

Personally, I also can't follow the guide as faithfully as possible, so instead I go through it as if it was a checklist, making sure at the very least I perform the exercices mentioned without any real timeframe limit, understanding the objective of each task mentioned. I'll usually also add a few more points to each exercice to get the most out of it, for example, practicing inking, a specific style, character desgin, adding perspective, etc. Seems to work out well so far.

Thank you again for your words : ). I think you are right, better to keep moving forward and not to be worried too much about the pace. It's good idea to do extra excercises focusing in what we want to improve. I'll try to do so too : ).

Your gesture drawings look pretty good. The exercises are good as well.
I was following the monthly challenges last year.
I haven't been able to follow all of the guides, but I think I should continue it.

Hi everyone!! . I continue my journey : )
TERM 1
Week 4 Perspective 1

This week I started perspective exercises ; meanwhile I'm still focused on gesture drawing and digital pen control by doing the proposed exercises to improve.

Yet, the perspective assignment No 1 is left; I'm working on It (It's fun to do this exercise)

Feelings:

  • Drawing circles is becoming less complicated for me; I strugle with
    It less than before.
  • I'm less worried for the pase and more focused in improving.
  • At the begining, with perspective, I strugled a little trying to create the vanishing point lines, but I figured out how to make it faster by copying and
    rotating one line.
  • I still practicing with one single vanishing point, but I found interesting to practice texture in perspective figures.
  • In figure drawing I realized that I need to practice Proportions
  • 2 character of 5 ...little by little. I found this one hard for me
but fun. I'd love to copy a differnt author each time.
  • I think I still need to do more cylinders; i'll try to do a few more excercises this week.

Last Gesture drawing (1min) exercise this week.

Last Nude figure drawing exercise this week.

Perspective excercise 1vp.

1 character study this week.

I'll start practicing wiith the second vanishing point this week and try to finish two characters (I'll try it...I'm still spend too much in only one  ).

Thanks again for your comments and feedback :relaxed:

Yo, so far so good! Them brick boxes look nice. And phoenix is lookin good too!

You mentioned you copy and rotate the line, and while a valid approach, depending on the tool you are using you might want to look at the rules it may have available. It might take a bit to get familiar with them (I struggled to understand how they worked in CSP), but they help a lot! (I feel like this was mentioned before...? I don't remember...)
