- Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?in24.3k
- Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with youin1.4k

- Thank you @daceronine! If I remember I save in google cloud, I will have to stick a note to do it more often. Lamp is from life. Poses are from refs but I look at refs for a while and then try to do it myself and look it up if needed. Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!in48.3k
Heeey that chracter study looks REALLY good! Keep it up!
Don't worry about the pace, we each eventually follow the pace and the companion guide in whichever way best works for us. Ideally you want to follow and do as much as possible, but sometimes we simply don't have enough bandwith and will tweak the tasks to fit within our bandwith.
Personally, I also can't follow the guide as faithfully as possible, so instead I go through it as if it was a checklist, making sure at the very least I perform the exercices mentioned without any real timeframe limit, understanding the objective of each task mentioned. I'll usually also add a few more points to each exercice to get the most out of it, for example, practicing inking, a specific style, character desgin, adding perspective, etc. Seems to work out well so far.
Hi everyone!! . I continue my journey : )
TERM 1
Week 4 Perspective 1
This week I started perspective exercises ; meanwhile I'm still focused on gesture drawing and digital pen control by doing the proposed exercises to improve.
Yet, the perspective assignment No 1 is left; I'm working on It (It's fun to do this exercise)
Feelings:
- Drawing circles is becoming less complicated for me; I strugle with
It less than before. - I'm less worried for the pase and more focused in improving.
- At the begining, with perspective, I strugled a little trying to create the vanishing point lines, but I figured out how to make it faster by copying and
rotating one line. - I still practicing with one single vanishing point, but I found interesting to practice texture in perspective figures.
- In figure drawing I realized that I need to practice Proportions
- 2 character of 5 ...little by little. I found this one hard for me
but fun. I'd love to copy a differnt author each time. - I think I still need to do more cylinders; i'll try to do a few more excercises this week.
Last Gesture drawing (1min) exercise this week.
Last Nude figure drawing exercise this week.
Perspective excercise 1vp.
1 character study this week.
I'll start practicing wiith the second vanishing point this week and try to finish two characters (I'll try it...I'm still spend too much in only one ).
Thanks again for your comments and feedback
Yo, so far so good! Them brick boxes look nice. And phoenix is lookin good too!
You mentioned you copy and rotate the line, and while a valid approach, depending on the tool you are using you might want to look at the rules it may have available. It might take a bit to get familiar with them (I struggled to understand how they worked in CSP), but they help a lot! (I feel like this was mentioned before...? I don't remember...)
Thank you @daceronine : ); I might should take a look if there is a better way; I'm using photoshop CS6.
9 days later
Hello everyone!. It took me more time this time to post; last week was one of the less easier let's say . Thank you so much for your comments : )
TERM 1
Week 5 Perspective
I continued practicing perspective and just playing around with different shapes and kind of materials.
Also wanted to keep improving my pen control so I found interesting to follow the 30 days challenge from Marc's channel this week ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5AV42mgAe0&ab_channel=MarcBrunet][1]).
I just realized this week that I confused about the third assingment (the room); I thougt it was the first one; I'll finish it this week I guess.
Feelings:
- I feel more confidence drawing in perspective (one or two vanishing points)
- I found confusing the proportions exercise and the way to measure
with a pencil, I decided to not doing it this week to better
understand the next. - I think the 30 days challenge is very useful to obtain more
confidence on tracing (and to improve making circles and cylinders) - I found little hard to simplify and capture the motion on figure
drawing daily excercise yet. - 2 character of 5 again :/. It's fun to do character studies but still takes me a while to finish
each one. - I'm less worried about pace but pending assignments are pilling up a bit;
anyway, I'll keep moving forward with the study guide.
Last Gesture drawing (2min) exercise this week.
Perspective excercise 2vp.
Figure drawing - Proportions
First character study this week.
Sketch made by Rinotuna
Second character study this week.
Sketch made by Artgerm
I'll work again with proportions and try to understand better. I find very fun and useful to make studies, so I'll try to finish more this week.
Note: updated references
Thank you all of you
Yo those character studies are really nice, it helps to be able to compare to your reference, if any. I really like the counterpose and gesture of the second one in particular, looks like a very purposeful use of applied anatomy there, the way she has her head tilted one way, eyes looking opposite, shoulder forward, the gesture of the fingers etc
First one, I think the foot is a bit short (compare to forearm)
cheers!
Thank you @snakker, I updated the post with the reference I took. The study I made in the second one was from an sketch made by Artgerm; I like so much his drawings and the poses he uses are great!.
In the first one, you are right , I'm trying to focus this week in understanding how to handle proportions properly : ).
Thank you @gregorya :). The first character is just an sketch from Rinotuna, but I liked her.
Thank you for the information @wittman.gutierrez. I've never heard of this artist.
Hello everyone! Thank you so much for your comments : ). Almost done for the term 1 although still pending work to do.
TERM 1
Week 6 Perspective
I took two weeks this time. I found very useful to continue the 30 days challenge from Marc's channel; it helped me a lot to feel more confidence in the perspective excercise.
Feelings:
- Honestly, I got a little confused drawing the room at the beginning and as I was progressing, I found myself redrawing some parts due confusion in perspective and it took me long time to finish the assignment.
- In the perspective assignment It was interesting to add details that don't exist in my real living room. It was hard but fun
- In the perspective assignment It was interesting to add details that don't exist in my real living room. It was hard but fun
- The 30 days challenge helped me a lot to getting faster and more accurate in the perspective assingment.
- I tried again the proportions exercise; at the end , I found it kind of annoying :/. I'm still failing in this excercise in proportions; I think I should find another way or other exercises to improve this skill or take some distance from it by the moment. I'm open to ideas to improve this skill
In 5 minutes gesture drawing I found myself a little confused; I had more time to draw, but I was not able to decide what details to draw. I guess I need more practice and anatomy practice.
I could barely finish the room assignment so I haven't started any environment study yet
Gesture drawing (5min) exercise this week.
3 life changing drawing excercices - First excercise
30 days challenge - until day 20
Perspective assignment - My living room
I feel as if I hadn't drawn a character in a while ; I'll take advantage of the next week to continue doing character studies and complete some environment studies too.
Note: I see that many of you have a picture in your forum profile, I'd love to know how to change the mine; I'm getting tired of the orange square
Thank you all!!
Yo, good work all around man.
As for the profile image, right here:
As for gestures, I think your work looks fine. The idea is to capture the "pose" or "energy" of the reference, beyond that, there are few guidelines. It helps to look for the relative position of the spine and limbs, though it seems some with more experience go directly in 3D shapes of the overall body.
It's all about refining your observation skill though, so as long as you keep trying, it's alright.
Love the room, many (including myself) struggle with perspective, but you can easily tell the angle and most objects. There is clear intento to use lineart weight to enforce the perspective, and most proportions seem to fit in well, so overall it looks good.
