A Champion For Fantasy

Hello Cubebrush people! I'm finally jumping in to this exciting contest after being a very busy bee for the majority of the submission period. Enough excuses, what am I going to showcase?! Well my champion is a mighty Troll named Danley. He was raised by monkeys after his family was killed by a predator, and considers the trees his home. For all intents and purposes, he is a Tree Troll.

Danley was once an unnaturally small and weak juvanile jungle troll who was saved from the predator that killed his family by the automaton of a young Gnomish inventor that happened upon by their jungle camp, while he was searching for rare ore veins. My final submission will feature all of these characters, 50 years after the initial event.

The gnome named Staniel, having been dependant on technology his whole life, is now even more reliant on it with several bionic limbs and implants. These are all his own creations, and becoming more defective all the time, thanks to the frail gnome's inability to upgrade them effectively, without assistance. He has always been reliant on his inventions to keep him alive, and never put any effort into strengthening his body or sharpening his reflexes, so now he is at the whim of the sporadic functionalty of his machines.

Danley the tree troll on the other hand has been actively surviving in the wild with his adopted monkey family every moment since that fateful day, when he was defenseless in the face of death, forced to cower behind the gnome's robotic protector.

Now that the backstory is out of the way, I can describe my illustration!

I am going to depict Staniel's robot guardian out of battery, gashed and armless kneeling on the ground, with Staniel behind it being pulled by the rocket thruster on the boot of his bionic leg. There is a predator of some undecided kind leaping over the robot with its claws outstretched, which is exactly what Staniel's boot is pulling him towards. Our great hero Danley is going to be depicted swinging from a low branch with the backs of his knees, grabbing the predator midflight. An important feature of this illustration is Danley's thought bubble which will show the reversed event of his youth, showing him being in awe at the strength of the robot and the cabability of the gnome, who are now powerless and in need of being saved.

Originally I was going to show Danley doing a flying kick/knee over a cowering Staniel with his batteryless robot, but I wanted to have Danley in a position to be able to see how far Staniel has fallen, while simultaneously doing the rescuing. The positioning of these characters, and type of action Danley is conducting may still change, but the first sketch I will be working with is with the aforementioned composition.

Any feedback you want to give will be very helpful and seriously considered and I look forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with!
