  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

Hey there everyone. So before giving a brief on the story of my character, let me just say that the sci-fi side will win this war.
Yes my Genre/Theme will be sci-fi for the Art War. So to all the elves, dragons, knights and goblins; your days are numbered.
As much as I love fantasy I want to challenge myself with tackling some more sci-fi stuff. Looking at my artstation I only have 2 sci-fi pieces and that's a no no.

So the story I have is that seeing as this is an art war between fantasy and sci-fi; I wanted to add that to my story and build on top of the war idea. So my Character Falcon(That's her code name) is an solider like character which is tasked with taking down everyone else fantasy character. Technology over magic is her factions model(well one of them). So I'm thinking that she has to be an dps-ish character if this was an game. Think Overwatch type of game. So I want her to be agile in a sense. Average body type. Have a kit to defend against elemental magic. Hover/booster boots to get away from difficult situations and other things. So basically she needs tools to fight off you guys knights and creatures. We can't lose this war right? That's not an option lol. To add to the fun, I think I might give her an companion bot that follows her around to help her when hurt. It can store a first aid kit or just be a friend when she's lonely. IDK :no_mouth: Or make other characters for the final illustration that help her fight the good fight.

EDIT FINAL ENTRY HERE

"Character Concept Sheet"

"Final Illustration"

So I did a lot of different works. Lots of things in the wip stage and really sketchy. I have more to come. Just have to think about things and then sketch it out.
Lets start with a bunch of early sketches with some context.

So here are the guns. I've never done weapons before so this is all new to me. Would really love some c&c on this. Their numbered so let me know which ones you like or which 2 can be combined. Will do some more weapon concepts later this week.

I was inspired by Overwatch and unreal tournament as well as real guns. I loved the weapon design in those 2 games. I also came up with a few others after a quick google search of sci-fi guns to get inspired from. This was really fun.

Now for the character.

Just the base body along with a sketch of her in regular pilot cloths. Forgot to mention that part of her story. Still playing with ideas and slowly locking down on a solid one.

As I said this is early. Just trying to get the brain following

I think I like the army green here.

Lastly before I forget, she use a kind of nano tech. Think crysis where the main character can gain strength or go invis. I don't know how my character will use it but I'll think about it. if you guys or girls have any cool ideas. Let me know.

Always looking for c&c. mainly on design and silhouette of things. Does the sketch read as an dps-ish character that can be in a game like overwatch for example? Look forward from hearing from you guys.

This process is so inspitring to watch!!!!

Personally I get more of a Gears of War-y/Starcraft vibe, rather than Overwatch for the last four models. With Overwatch, the obvious armor was left mostly for the tanks, with the DPSers stripped down for speed.

The two below the orange one though, that looks Overwatchy enough indeed.

@loonyfred Thank you. Glad you like it. If you have any feedback for the character, guns whatever don't hesitate to let me know.
@dizcoon With the last 4 I was thinking of pharah as she is in an mech suit with wings. Maybe I can lessen the bulk a little more. This is sci-fi so maybe its a kind of advance suit. Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Hi Malcom. Great job so far!
(Your first sketches remind me so much of Marc's character art btw  )
I really like the last one on the right, but maybe would make the armor look a little bit more feminine if you know what I mean. I think the idea with sort of tatoo in her face and kind of diadem looks also cool. Would try giving her two bi**-a** guns and see how it looks (gun concept n.3 looks quite badass) or maybe a gun and a mech-sword. :yum:
Sadly I didn't have time to join the competition yet, but obviously I am going to be on the opposite side, but anyway looking forward how your character will turn out and you have my full support!
Keep it up!

your project looks awsome! but, lets get to the point, your guns, the guns look awsome and for the sake of weight I would choose a bullpup design (magazine thingy is behind the grip, makes it more compact) so you might want to take inspiration from the Famas a french made bullpup rifle. so it isn't that bulky, good for CQC well, decent a smg or shotgun would shine there. but you also get a good amount of accuracy and range. very important, a variable scope that is linked to your visor is handy for zooming in and more accurate shots. a electromagnatic rife or guas rifle (think railgun) might be more sci fi though, it doesn't use any chemical reactions to ''fire'' the gun, so no smoke trails for tracking you in the distance, no bullet casings to use as clues/breadcrumps. you get it probally. a energy weapon that shoots plasma might be a bit too power consuming ,since it uses a electromagnetic field to keep it enclosed, which needs to be supplied with (1)power at a (2)distance while (3)traveling, and removing it just before impact. its strong but probally still only on a big space ship.

as for the suit(s) I would go with a fully closed off design, you do not want those crazy fantasy bugs exposing your brains to weird toxins do you :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: and you can use the helmet to lift the limits humans have on their view width. you can create cameras around the helmet so she can see a 360 degrees around her at all times. so no rogue will think of sneaking up on her back! maybe add some kind of external skeleton on the suit (exoskeleton intergrated into the suit) for maximum awsomeness  and ofcourse being able to use those big ass sci fi melee weapons is also a plus , a small hip pocket with a tactical knife is handy which might be able to double as a plasma cutter. , a slot for a oxygen tank on the back or neck for underwater combat with those fantasy fish races. or do the classic ''dynamite into a pond'' trick. you need a communication device, so maybe a little antena on the helmet ? a couple of high explosive to breach a castle wall? or a laser designator to indicate the area a space ship needs to bombard from orbit? ( if not energy weapon google kinetic bombardment satalites). thats some next level micheal bay. I could go on and on as you can see. but I will leave you with this first.

Good luck

Damn, so good.

I can see Marc influence all over your work, and I mean that as a compliment. For me Marc's style is like if Moebius and Anime had a baby, can't go wrong if that.

@andrewnimble I think my first sketch looks like marcs because it was the last thing I remember seeing. SO unfortunately(not really I guess :sunglasses: ) it kinda just came out like that.
I believe I can slim down the armor a bit more and make it more sleek. This is sci-fi so having some kind of crazy tech can allow armor to be this way. I was thinking of giving her some kind of energy things on her face. Like so scifi bit or something. Sketches will come soon. I like gun number 3 as well. I love melee so a plasma sword-ish weapon would be cool. Come one you gotta be team sci fi after that feedback lol. Good luck though and thanks a lot.

@majmufin My sci-fi teammate in crime. First off let me say thanks for all the ideas. Love the the tips and ideas on the gun design works. I'll get started on some sketches. Making a new ref board. We have to remember this is sci-fi so new tech can always be made to make things easier and better. We gotta look into the future and continue to tweak things to make them better. So maybe a new type of plasma weapon can be made to make things easier for out champions of the future.
Yeah no crazy bugs missing with my characters brain. Field of vision is definitely important. I will have an drawing of an exoskeleton. I was thinking of her having some kind of nanits that can become anything. Think Bayonetta with her hair being her clothes but nanits instead. A knife on the hip? Got it. Ok so my brain is working and its telling me that she can be some sort of android made from nanits or an alien with nanit nanotech stuff. I know what you mean with going on and on about this stuff. :relieved:

@Iago_Cavalcante Thank you!! :grinning: I believe the reason I have a lot of Marc influence is because seeing his art and watching his videos is why I started doing art again. Honestly didn't know who Moebius was so I quickly looked it up. Interesting stuff there.

Waou that's just amazing ! I can not wait to see more ♪
