  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

Lana is a cyborg heroine for hire. She lives in a world of dystopian steampunk landmasses that left its cyberpunk, hi-tech era. In time, she is to take a side to protect the city of Nebula - her city.

Hi, everyone! 🎉 🎉 🎉

My name is James, and this is my first time participating in a Cubebrush's Art War. As well, Cubebrush is quite a new platform to me despite opening the account more than a year ago. I can only hope that I do things up here the right way! Everyone gotta start somewhere, no? 😂

Anyway, I have spent quite an amount of time thinking about what to do, and eventually told myself "Oh, what the heck -- just get on with what you love." Having developed fascination for cyberpunk and steampunk, both as visual and literary genres, I decided to challenge myself to make a compromise for both worlds.

Here is just a bunch of right-on-site inspirations and references that I have in mind. Copyrighted stuff, am I right? 😏

This post is going to be utterly wordy, but it will work as notes for me on the background of the character that I am about to create.

you guys read the title, 'Lana of Nebula'.

Lana is a girl who belongs to a world that downgrades itself from hi-tech, cyberpunk utopia to dystopian steampunk landmasses. Over-mining and pollution have infected our planet so devastatingly, its electromagnetic field grows unstable, resulting in frequent yet unpredictable chains of EMPs occur around the world. As Mother Earth growls in pain, humanity suffers. Now, we are to learn how to grow beyond the dependence on electronic devices and master the pure mechanical side of life. And the steam era returns.

Lana is a disowned daughter of one of the most powerful weaponry businessmen on Earth. Once a spoiled and reckless child, she stole something from her father that she could not entirely understand, and used it to prove her outrageous ego. Consequently, it cost her both her arms, and they were replaced with mechanically advanced limbs. As time passed, she healed from the incident and was immediately sent to the city of Mist, Nebula, a land in which poverty and hardship are overshadowed by the flashiness of gothic aesthetics. And the machinery arms of hers are the last thing she would ever get from the father, for they act as a reminder of the first biggest mistake of her life, for the rest of her life.

5 years of scavenging and surviving, she becomes a reputable fighter for hire. And in time, she is to pick a side, as a threat to destroy her city emerges and trickles from the gears of the underground factories, to the alleys of the city of Mist.

Cheers!

Engaging story  The perspective of that image is dominating. Even at this early stage its a joy to look at.

Let's get right into the biz!

These are a bunch of thumbnails that I did for exploration of Lana. In my opinion, futuristic mechanical arms are always edgy and epic. They compliment the wearers, allowing them to express their personality and style, and to kick butts! Of course, after the accident, Lana ought to get used to the arms. And as they grow on her overtime, they partially represent her in a way.

I started with the 3 arm drawings first to explore the possibilities of shape design and functionalities of the arm. At first, I was being pragmatic, thus created an arm that anthropometrically relevant. I think of it as something Lana literally carries to a fist fight, as well as to sleep. Then, I pushed the proportion of the of the shoulder and the forearm, (Megaman style,) to grasp the feels of such exaggeration. I also considered the type of arm that she carries, whether it is an exact replicate of human anatomy with aluminum tendons and pneumatically controlled muscles, fully robotic and mechanical arms with joints and hydraulic cylinders, etc. This is a real trip of joy as I kept geeking out about the variations!

Next. I want Lana to be a character who knows exactly who she is and where she is. Her outfit should not be overly revealing, but still feminine and teasing, as though she acknowledges the power of physical seduction. She is seasoned enough after 5 years of living in Nebula city, and she knows her advantages. Aside from that, snapping back to reality, I honestly don't get how some women just get into a brawl in heels with poise and confidence. Hence, I put Lana in boots and shoes first for stability. It's a safe move, so in one of the thumbnails, I gave her full-on typically flashy fleshy style. We shall see how things go with as I develop the rough concepts later on.

As we are to "[design] the most epic champion this world has ever seen," I wanted to give Lana a major upgrade. She often makes do with the arms, but for special occasions, she has some moves to show. She could have more arms. Big ones! I then looked into my visual library through all kinds of armouries, and the lower row of concepts are quite a fun bunch to work on. Arms that hang on to her back, her hips, floats, etc.

Ya-di, ya-di, yah-da... That's all for today, folks! For people who read till the end, thank you.

Cheers!

Hey there!

These are sketches of Lana derived from earlier thumbnails. They are still considered rough, but the ideas on the shapes, forms, and materials to be applied into the designs are clear for me. I also spent more time researching materials, fabric design, arrangements, types, etc. to push the edginess further.

Steampunk and cyberpunk are vastly different from each other, so getting to harmonize them within one fictional being is just pure joy! The real challenge is to make the audience say, "oh, this is definitely steampunk -- wait --that's some Blade Runner/Ghost in the Shell vibe going on!"

More explanations and analogies tomorrow probably. Anyway, cheers!

Hi everyone! Long time no update, but here I am, typing!

The tight sketches above are the designs I did for Lana's mechanical arms and her clothing.

As to the arm designs, I keep the first one fairly thin and classy with a big, streamlined shoulder. This is an anatomically replicated arm design, with muscles and tendons made of cables and motors. The shoulder bulge is quite a good indication for confidence and dominance. Nevertheless, it is important to consider the feminine factor when adjusting the shoulder forms. Aside from that, the second arm design is definitely porportion pushing. The special feature of this design is that the forearm portion with 3 almond-like metal pieces pointing up. This part can extend out and rotate so that it becomes a more powerful fist.
Additionally, the circular glowing shape on the shoulders in both design is a slot with a battery in it. This battery enhances the power of arms in during battles by giving more force to every punch and shortening the delay of the neuro-link between Lana and the arms. Quite a fun concept!
