Haven't done a contest in a while so I thought I'd try this one. Especially since when I saw the theme, an idea popped into my head.
Starting off trying to figure out hairstyle design...

I still need to go back and do the turnaround images, but here's what I have in mind for the illustration. Rather ambitious and I hope I can finish in time!
Finally got around to doing the turnaround.
In the interest of trying to finish in time (thank goodness for deadline extensions!) and to go more with the war theme, I've changed the idea for my illustration. Here's how far I got over the weekend, as I unfortunately didn't have a chance to do anything with this over the holidays:
