Azurakue - Art School Journey

Hello everyone, you can call me Azurakue or Azura. I initially started this journey as a hobby after finally gaining the courage to start, which happened 2 years ago. Unfortunately because of being too busy with Uni that is no way related to art, I wasn't really able to study much regarding art and could only improve little by little from self-taught. It's only recently that I found out about this Art School, and I do hope that I can improve alot more from here on out in hoping to become an illustrator. Pleased to meet everyone! ^^

Assignment 1, 2 and Proportion
Doing this I realized how sucks my pen control really are and how shaky my hands are when drawing...

Proportions looking pretty good. When I practice those, I don't put too much concern about the anatomy but rather making sure that the limbs and torsos and everything are the right length.
Super important Tip! When I practice proportions, I realized that the legs are in fact 4 heads long, but they are just slightly shifted upwards a bit. Just take your index and thumb, measure the leg from ankle to the top of the thighs. Then compare the span of your two fingers to the boxes.

It's the same idea with arms. They are measured in heads, they're just slightly shifted!

Looking really nice with this Sandy! Great thickness on the tables! I think if you are able to add the same thickness on the bookshelf it will really tie this all together. Fantastic work!

This has officially been a week since I started Daily Gesture Drawing as well as joining this course!
The gesture drawing itself ranges from 30 secs to 1 min (with the stickmans being 30 secs and the figure-ish being 1 min).
Honestly, I'm still not sure if I get the hang of it. I know this is basically a practice on drawing the gestures, fluidity as well as being confident in one's line. But when it comes to having to draw the bodies in the 1 min gesture drawings, I still haven't gotten the hang of it.

Smhw I ended up drawing handsome squidward and other random stuffs along the way.

Here, I tried to put together the things I've learnt during the class, using Marc's shading as reference.

I feel like in some of these gestures you focus a little more on the contours of the body as opposed to capturing the flow. Try to do your best to avoid adding anatomy for now and focus purely on the movement. Great work though! Keep up the good practice!

Not bad, but I'm assuming you stylized a little (nothing wrong with that)
If so, I just wanna suggest to just stick with the general rule of thumb before trying to stylize anything. The goal right now is to get the fundamentals down to the core.
Focus on that first before stylization.

It's been a while!
So few days back, I decided to jump a few terms to tackle Light and Colour Theory 1 and 2 since I realized that I'm really lacking in those departments, especially regarding light, shading, and colours. It's gotten to the point that even a friend of mine said that it would probably be for the best if I try to improve on colouring and all that.
(In the discord it was said that the Terms doesn't need to be done in order, so this should be fine right? )

Anyway, here is Colour and Light Theory 2 Assignment I just did.

Watching the two videos does help me realize that I've never really thought about the light direction during the initial phases of my drawings and instead think of it as smthg that I will add later... Then theres also colours which I used randomly... Must say tho, while I do understand about light now (at least in theory), colours are still something I still can't fully grasp, but I'm guessing that's where experimentation/trial and error comes huh.

With all that said, it's time to do some personal project and see if I can somehow apply the things I've learnt so far.
