Hello all,
My mother had to be called into the principles office at school while I was in 1st grade because I was in trouble for selling my sketches, a nickel each So I suppose I was on the path from a young age... in fact from then until the end of high school I never wanted to do anything else.
Unfortunately, being from a small town in the late 90's/early 00's I was basically sat down by my counselor and told "you can either take art history and teach or graphic design and build websites." In general I was pushed towards design and let others dictate my path... I don't begrudge them as they only wanted the best for me, but after graduating (I believe I started with photoshop 6) and working in lower tier graphic design jobs for a few years (magazines, newspapers, etc) I was fed up / burnt out and walked away from basically any art for over a decade.
I started doodling again earlier this year, found some of Marc's videos and have found the joy in the process once more. Looking back at my old work I realize I was very weak in fundamentals, and so I'm taking my time (patience comes with age after all... right?) and trying to really improve the basics.
Sorry for the novella, hi everyone.
