Hi everyone! Started this last night and just fell into it. I've wanted to try this half-cast shadow composition for a while, and after almost 8 hours I'm feeling really happy with it. Critiques are always welcome, I've got a lot to learn so if you feel like sharing some insight, by all means. But, mostly I'm just excited to share the progress shots over the next few days.
Been plugging away today, changed up shoulder armor, did away with the hair, adjusted the perspective, etc. Still wrestling with the background and experimenting with the armor. Overall, still having lots of fun with it. As always any and all comments and insights welcome.
Loving the half shadow composition concept! I think, however, that the recent changes to the hair/armor caused a loss in interest. It looks a bit too symmetrical. Maybe try changing up the armor more, play with the wings, etc. Keep it up, exploree!
A few more hours of tinkering. Thanks @ESL for the feedback! I wasn't sure I wanted the hair back in, so I added more flowing ribbons to keep it from getting too static. Replaced the helmet wings to look more menacing and less decorative, and added some extra bits to the shoulders. Still wrestling with the colors in the shadow and how bluish-purple to push the reds. As always feedback is more than welcome!
Incredible work! It's hard to find any bad points because I really like the style and overall theme. If I had to suggest something I'd say maybe darken down the areas of the armour that are in definite shadow and bring in a few highlights for some more dramatic contrast.
But overall very impressive, well done!
The upper half definitely needed darkening, and also added some moody dim backlighting to help keep the figure from sliding back too much. Covered the whole floor is sloopy wet redness so I could play around with a few reflections and emphasize the impact of the carnage without having to add more strewn meat. Added a little more detail to the helmet and tweaked a few perspective issues as well. There's some minor tweaks left but I think it's pretty close to done!
Looks amazing, well done! If I were you I'd leave it there so as to not over work it. Very nice piece of work
