Good Morning/Day/Afternoon/Evening all!

My name's Jason, a totally normal person living in the middle of nowhere. I've always liked drawing as a hobby of sorts and with all the free time available recently I decided to make a serious attempt to actually get good at making art.

My hope is to finally be able to look at something I made without internally screaming. And externally screaming.

With that out of the way I'll be posting progress of my journey here, starting with the photoshop for digital production section.

Pen Control, or lack thereof:

Using a screenless tablet probably makes this more of a challenge, either that or its just my lack of hand-eye coordination.

Image Adjustments:

This one was interesting, I feel like I got pretty close with most of these. The last one was quite a challenge though and something feels a bit off with my adjustments.

Combining Images:

I probably shouldve been a bit more creative with this one. I added a few things like a big ol' spire and a landmass in the background.

As for the final assignment, it might be a bit before I can come up with a solution for that since I'm using Krita as opposed to photoshop.

Addendum to initial post,

Nude Figure Drawing:

Cylinders, with action lines included for some reason:

circles with more circles and also lines

Skeletons on top of photo reference:

with even more circles, really got me thinking about the locations of body parts and whatnot. I ended up marking the chest area with a cross on the front so I can tell where it's facing.

Skeletons based on reference/imagination:

This got much tougher, but I liked doing this one as opposed to doing it on top of the references themselves.

Proportions:

I'll probably have to do this one a lot in order to get it down right. Turns out I strayed just a bit too much from the reference provided by the lesson video.

Gestures:

It's gonna be a LOT of work before my gesture drawing will look even halfway decent. They're essentially scribbles at this point.

I intend to adhere to a daily schedule. At least the gesture drawings at the bare minimum.
Unfortunately I couldn't get to the full figure drawing yet since I ran out of time in the day.

Needless to say I'm excited to start working on all this and start improving.

More Gestures, as a warmup before doing the figure drawing

30 Seconds

60 seconds

I've been splitting gesture drawing time evenly between 30 and 60 second gestures.

Figure drawing:

After aligning the outline with the reference image I noticed a few things were off but for the most part its relatively accurate. also I ended up cutting off the hand, I feel sorry for that particular hand.
Hopefully I'll be able to measure more accurately with practice.
I also ended up shading it since its something I'm not exactly confident with and practice always helps.

Welcome to ArtSchool!

The screaming never really stops, but for sure decreases 🤣

Good stuff so far! Congrats.

Thank you!
At the very least there's a volume knob, I'll take comfort in that.
I'll make sure to put my time here to good use.

Welcome Jason this is a really solid start so far and I'm liking what I'm seeing don't worry about scribbles on a gesture we are trying convey a movement first and foremost and your better off with scribbly lines then stiff ones I don't have much else to add because like I said this is showing a lot of promise just keep practising and striving for improving, looking forward to your progress.

I'm definitely going to do my best to improve as much as I can.
Thank you for the words of encouragement, it means a lot!

More gestures. I'll probably start gathering them up into larger collections and post progress on them in longer intervals to avoid spam after this.

30 Seconds

60 Seconds

And another figure exercise

shaded this one too.
Definitely going to need to work on making it more accurate when drawing from reference. I have a tendency to make limbs bigger than they actually are for whatever reason.

I really like that your shading your figures, it may not add much right now but I think it will help you get a better understanding of volumes later on (something I struggle with(Especially the back muscles))
