I'm starting this course in the hopes I can really work on my fundamentals and develop more consistency in my practice. I'd love to be able to make some fantasy style illustrations in future and am excited to see what this course brings and how everyone else progresses too!

Posting my Image Adjustments assignment from week 1 as well as one of my pen control sheets. Trying to keep the circles fast so the lines are smooth, will hopefully build up more accuracy as I go.

Also thought I'd share a photo study I've been working on, still a work in progress but pretty happy with it so far.

This is a nice study. It has nice contrast, ample tonal range and i feel the negative space between the horse and figure plays an important role in the balance. It gives enough room for each to breathe and is judt a little slanted a little dynamic. The tree kind of frames the subjects and makes it more comfy to look at and the ridge line successfully avoids being a tangent

I also always enjoy seeing the strong pose of the horse’s legs and how it graphically transmits the weight to the ground. Not too sure of the horse’s ear and the hand details

Thanks so much for the feedback! The ear and hand look weird to me too, it wasn't very clear in the reference but I definitely should have looked for other photos to fill in the blanks instead of just winging it. Next time :smile:
