I also want to mention, I dunno if this happened to anyone else but as soon as it was an assignment to study characters or things I like, I suddenly forgot literally everything that I've ever seen or enjoyed LOL

Lol yea, it happens. More like, you default to some things even if you know there are others you like more or would prefer to use, but for some reason you can't remember what they were anymore xD.

Nice studies btw. There's some noticeable progress when compared to 2022. And yea, perspective is hard. Even after a few years, it's still hard.

For the past couple weeks, I have been trying to dive back into things I loved alot as a teen. Since that's when I started actually doing art constantly, I've very difficult to pinpoint more than like 2 things that super inspired me.
but since starting these classes I've been looking into everything and only a couple things have passed my criteria for studying, atleast it's something tho.

I will say when the lesson plan was to study environments, I panicked a bit bc it's like I've never looked at the background in my entire life. literally not a single thing came to mind.

Thanks!! it is very hard! xD it ties my brain up in knots. After actually studying it and practicing my knowledge, It's gotten easier, even tho after doing it my brain cogs get sludgey and I have 2 brain cells for the rest of the day.

I yam back and here to drop term 2 stuff, things during the start of term 2 were going very well. Unfortunately, during week 2 I got covid after going out once in the past months!! > so I was out of commission for about 3 weeks due to it and the aftereffects. x_x

this worksheet took me way longer due to me just staring at the colors while I was struggling with covid xD

I had to redo my simple creatures due to the creatures I drew at first not being simple xD

I have more to post but I gotta get it together lol
also, I need to stop trying to be so perfect when doing my face studies for anatomy bc I just be zooming in and focusing on details that you can't even see when it's zoomed out.

oh yeah! and I joined the discord the other day, it's a bit intimidating with so many people there lol

Oooof hopefully you are all good now. I've only gotten COVID once, but it was a rough time.

You did a great job with the little critters. Back then I only did one and it didn't turn as good xD.

Edit: Oh! and what's your Discord id? Do you have a blog there? My ID is daceronine, feel free to touchbase whenever you want Discord is indeed intimidating, because of all the channels and options, and things seem to move so fast. Eventually you settle into just a few channels and things start to make sense. I recommend focusing on the Term channel you are on, maybe a few blogs of some friends, and the daily art channel if you want to see things move at the speed of light.

I've only had icovid twice now and the first time I got it, I thought I was gonna die. The second time I didn't feel like that but that doesn't mean it wasn't super awful to deal with xD

yea exactly!! it's so big that there's so many people there so it's a buncha eyes on your stuff but in turn, it's so big that it moves so fast it's like there's no eyes on it xD

I've been feeling much better and did some soul searching in general :3
Here's the game box that I worked hard on and had to stop myself from doing more with the art bc that wasn't really the focus of the assignment, I just did a quick sketch based off something I was working on.

Here's muh character forward head studies :3 very fun to do tho I would say that the simplier heads like Sora and Riku's was harder for me xD I dunno why, maybe it's because I struggle to draw dudes lol

This is a study of an Artist I follow "Niwa Rhythm" and they are fantastic at hatching and cross hatching, I don't have enough words for how sick I think they are. I also just happened to find out what brush they use, I ended up really loving it.

All great exercices! I see you're keeping an eye out not just for the form, but also for line weight and shading!

I really like linework, so it's fun to see how others use it to show different elements off.
tho someone's line weight I don't really understand is Eiichiro Oda's, it just seems so random at times. I just chalked it down to, sometimes he needs things to stand off the page more or to show that something is closer to the viewer.

I think that's exactly it! While weight can be used to define some soft shade, distance (foreground vs background), it is also heavily used to highlight importance, as more weight pulls the eye. So you'll usually see the contour with a bit more weight, eyes with more heavy weight (eyelashes), or if something on the panel simply demands attention, like letters, or a specific asset, like a knuckle or arm.
