#WORLDS

BRIEF

- Civilization collapsed after a terrible event, but a new one is rising from its ashes -

📣 You will be tasked with designing/creating an environment merging the old with the new, choosing either Fantasy or Sci-fi as your dominant genre.

Is the new world significantly more advanced or is it more post-apocalyptic? Is it castles and floating islands like Ghibli's Laputa or is it more Blade Runner-esque? Show everyone what this epic (or miserable) new world looks like!

This contest is for 2D and 3D artists. Artists who enter in the 3D category (only) can form teams of up to 3!

Which side will you take? Sci-fi? Fantasy?

RULES

▶ Pick either Fantasy OR Sci Fi as your dominant genre

The size and scale of your environment is up to you but should clearly incorporate new and old structures/props, in whatever ratio you prefer (up to 90/10 - example: 90% old structures, 10% new scructures)

Your environment can be mobile (large ship, floating island, etc) as long as it respects the above.

To enter the Cubebrush WORLDS Challenge:

  • Create a free Cubebrush account (if you don't have one already)

  • Create a new topic in the 2D or 3D category using this EXACT format:

    WORLDS | 2D or 3D | Entry Name | Username (example: WORLDS | 3D | Pipe City | marc)

  • When you are done and ready to submit, simply edit the name of your topic to indicate your entry is complete. Again, using this EXACT format:

    FINAL | WORLDS | 2D or 3D | Entry Name | Username

  • If you decide to enter in 3D as a team, mention the members in your first post and keep all the updates under one account.

  • Post your progress over time in your own topic, entries uploaded at the last minute will not be considered, this is a community-building event!

  • No art recycling, your entry has to be new and made specifically for this contest

  • You can only submit one entry per category (2D/3D)

  • Keep gore and nudity to a SFW (safe for work) level. If you think you'd get in trouble if your boss looked over your shoulder and saw it, then it's probably too much.

  • Use #WORLDS when posting about the contest on social media if you want the chance to get a repost from us!

  • Make sure you submit EVERYTHING required for your category if you don't want to be disqualified (see submission requirements below)

It's LIVE! Have fun guys! Can't wait to see the amazing stuff that comes out of this!

How do the prizes work for groups? I didn't see that in the FAQ?

I guess you have to split them yourselves. It says they will be shipped to the same address

Hi

I would like to ask if the environment has to be inside Marmoset Toolbag or if it can be created inside game engines like:

Unity 5 , Unreal Engine 4 or any other.

I ask because of this:
--
Embedded Marmoset Viewer

Use our Marmoset embedded viewer to show off your environment - this will be used for judging. The .mview file has a 20mb size limit.
OR

Fly Through Video

If you do not include a Marmoset viewer file, you should at least include a video showing your environment so the judges can have a good look at everything you built.
--

Thanks :3.

Interesting concept. Something I am terrible at too, so I should probably participate if only for the study of it.

It only needs to be in Marmoset if you're planning to upload the viewer file for your final. You can build your environment in any engine you want and submit a fly through video instead

Failed to make last one on time this time will be different

Which limitations are exactly within the borders of "sci-fi" and "fantasy" genre? Picking either "Fantasy OR Sci Fi" eliminates any cross section between the genres? Sci-fi with remains of primitive technologies and ancient believes? Fantasy with "technomagic" - tech salvaged from more advanced ancient civilization?

Simple way to look at it is Sci-fi = current/future technology within the realm of actual possibilities, based in reality.

Fantasy = because magic.

You should pick a dominant genre, but you can have both
